I’ve been feeling a bit bad about my lack of posting or looking at Instagram the past few weeks. Even though I am on holiday and so this break was planned. Well it was and it wasn’t. I took time off over Christmas. And now in early January I’m away for a week in Seville. I told myself I would post a couple times when away. But this has proved hard, due to a combination of overstimulation from travel and having been really ill with the most horrible cold and still recovering. Except now I am posting, hurray! But only about these thoughts in my head - nothing properly related to art like i ”should” be doing.
I imagine I would feel more chill about Instagram if I had, say, a couple of thousand followers; that I would be happy staying at that level and not so concerned about growth like I am now, having such a low number :/ (though knowing how human psychology tends to work, that enough is rarely enough when it comes to this sort of thing, how the goal posts always keep moving, if and when I do reach into the thousands I may still not be satisfied…). Anyway, being away from Instagram after many months of pretty much hyper focusing on posting, offers a new sense of perspective around it. Yes it’s important for artists, and for my own goals as an artist. I know why I’m using it and for what purpose, and have decided it’s worth the work and stress. But at the same time it’s kind of an unreal place, and I don’t want to give it too much power over me. Rest is important. Serenity is important. Perspective is important 😎
This is all for now… Except to say today I am visiting a contemporary art museum and will hopefully post about that in the next couple days! 💃
