“Širom fashion maximalist avant-garde soundscapes from antique acoustic instruments like the balafon and hurdy gurdy. Their artfully rootless roots music makes an impassioned statement both aesthetically and, more opaquely, politically too.” — Uncut

The Slovenian avant-folk trio Širom are back with a sonically and thematically expansive 5th album; a thrilling follow-up to their widely praised 2022 release The Liquified Throne of Simplicity. Navigating almost two dozen instruments (some of which they’ve handcrafted), and hypnotic compositions that often exceed ten minutes in length, Ana Kravanja, Iztok Koren and Samo Kutin court patient, deep-dive listeners via intricately woven atmospheres, rhythms and sonics.

In the Wind of Night, Hard-Fallen Incantations Whisper is arguably the sharpest evocation yet of the group’s highly collective music process, enveloping rustic melodic folklore, outernational textures, non-linear song structures and dissonance, and a buzzing ambiance that can at times feel like an ecstatic ritual.

Few experimental ensembles from the last decade have created an ouevre as singular and unmistakable as that of this far-sighted trio from the disparate landscapes of Slovenia. Širom truly sound like no one else.

Ezra Feinberg is an American composer-guitarist, a practising psychoanalyst and former founding member of the San Francisco-based collective Citay. Feinberg was also a key contributor on the Arp album ‘Zebra’ in 2018.

Daniel O’Sullivan & Richard Youngs will be performing Persian Carpets

Persian Carpets is the new duo release from Daniel O’Sullivan and Richard Youngs, issued by VHF Records (VHF169) on January 23, 2026. Written for upright piano and zither, the work explores the harmonic clarity and resonance of perfect intervals. Structured as two side-long movements, the piece unfolds as a spacious, immersive form of acoustic minimalism, shifting between rhythmic surges, quiet overtones, and subtle variations in attack and texture.

The legendary Simon Finn a lone wolf troubadour from the mid-’60s UK scene returns to Café OTO on October 18th!

unfortunately Tony, Caro & John are no longer able to do the support set due to health reasons but happy to announce that The Owl Service will now be opening the show!

Tickets on sale now via Dice

Simon Finn has been given another crack at the troubled profession of singer/songwriter, his story the stuff of legend: A lone wolf troubadour from the mid-’60s U.K. scene, he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Bert Jansch. The powerful Pass the Distance, released to critical acclaim, seemingly lost forever... Since, a new record has surfaced – capturing the past and the present, a seamless transition despite the quarter century. Simon Finn has won over fans worldwide – including Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and ex-Blur guitarist Graham Coxon – with his passion, his wit and his soul-shaking music.

Aside from his solo shows Simon also plays guitar in a band called Current 93.
His album, Pass the Distance, was made in 1969, with David Toop (The Flying Lizards et al.) and Paul Burwell. It was produced by Vic Keary who ran Mushroom records at the time.

His 2007 release, Accidental Life, has also been recorded and mastered by Vic Keary. Playing on it are: Joolie Woods, David Toop, Karl Blake (Lemon Kittens) Keith Godman, with backing vocals from Danielle Dax and Rose McDowall (Strawberry Switchblade).

The Owl Service
Two decades on from its humble beginnings, The Owl Service remains one of British folk’s most enigmatic and fiercely independent forces. The band has largely carved its own path, embracing a self-sufficient ethos that has cemented its reputation as perennial outsiders within the alt-folk underground. Through a singular vision the band has spent twenty years reshaping British folk into something shadowed, spellbinding and unique.

Swell Maps
In the mid-1970s, a collective of six English teenagers started creating music together in their suburban home-town of Solihull. This project evolved into Swell Maps, around a core of three musicians: Jowe Head, his school friend the late Nikki Sudden, and Nikki's brother, the late Epic Soundtracks. Their 1977 debut 7", Read About Seymour, came out on their own Rather Records. One of the first punk bands to set up an "indie" label, they were also pioneers of “alternative" music, mixing punk with experimental sounds Swell Maps released four singles and two albums in a brief but eventful career, in partnership with Rough Trade, topping UK indie charts and influencing acts including Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Stereolab, and Blur.

NEW SHOW: November 15th Gnod celebrating 20 years as a band at The 100 Club

Tickets on sale now via Dice

Since their inception, Gnod’s musical trajectory has been one of constant fluctuation borne out of an incessant need to discover new sonic worlds. Beginning life as a shamanic drone ensemble, at times fitting up to 15 members on stage, these early rituals informed the core ideals that have come to define the group in their years of activity; community and trance-inducing repetition. Throughout a discography that has amassed dozens of CD-R’s, cassettes and vinyls for labels like Rocket Recordings, Trensmat, Krokodilo (Blackest Ever Black) and their own Tesla Tapes imprint, a restless yet organic need mutate their music into new realms has had critics clawing for comparative touch stones. Acts as far ranging as Hawkwind, Popul Vuh, Pan Sonic, Sunburned Hand of the Man and Pharaoh Sanders have all been referenced in attempt to pinpoint their output, one that has historically never aped any genre but with each record furthered their own unique place in truly independent music.

NEW SHOW: November 1st Deradoorian (Decisive Pink, Dirty Projectors) + Mason Lindahl at The Lexington

Tickets on sale now via Dice

Fusing elements of indie rock, avant-garde electronic music, dub, and dance rhythms, Deradoorian is the name Angel Deradoorian works under as a solo artist. She launched said solo career after making a name for herself as a member of Dirty Projectors and collaborating with artists such as Avey Tare and Flying Lotus. Her albums, including 2015's 'The Expanding Flower Planet' and 2020's 'Find the Sun', are cosmic song cycles informed by her spiritual journey. After collaborating with Kate NV under the name Decisive Pink on 2023's heavily electronic 'Ticket to Fame', Deradoorian added that sound to her already jam-packed approach on 2025's 'Ready for Heaven'.

‘Ready for Heaven’ deals with heaven and earth, damnation and salvation, and using intelligence against rampant, naked greed. It is a classic forty minute set of inquisitive pop songs, blessed with a lightness of touch and a sharp focus that can’t help but charm the listener. It conjures up some last, faint afterglow of the old belief that an electronic, programmed beat can smash itself - and you - into another, more egalitarian consciousness.

Support comes from Mason Lindahl

Described by friend and contemporary Hayden Pedigo as “the greatest living guitar player,” Mason Lindahl’s “austere, gothic flamenco…dares you to submit to this odd and immersive sonic universe” (Uncut). The North Carolina native’s solo instrumental debut Kissing Rosy in the Rain, released in 2021 via Tompkins Square, was praised as “gorgeous” (Petal Motel) and “a minimalist gem” (Everything Is Noise).

Guitarist Mason Lindahl — whose “unabashedly beautiful” (Aquarium Drunkard) sound “balances the romantic dynamics of flamenco and the meticulousness of Windham Hill with the unguarded qualities of improvised music” (Pitchfork) — will release a pair of new albums, Joshua / Same Day Walking, this fall via Mt. Brings Death.

Meursault at 9

From scratchy, electronic beginnings to string laden torch songs and pounding alt rock, Meursault has defied categorisation from the moment the project was conceived in 2008. Despite this, the distinct voice of Neil Pennycook and the unique playing of his collaborators never seem to stray too far from what is always immediately recognisable as the ‘Meursault sound’. Critically acclaimed and a regular fixture on many an ‘end of year list’, Meursault is a live act not to be missed or soon forgotten.

Having recently returned from a successful tour of Germany in promotion of the EP ‘Split’ (a joint venture with touring partner Honig) Meursault returns to the capital with an evening that promises to blend equal parts riotous cacophony and open nerve torch song.
