Vagare, 2023

Vagare is a collection of short videos shot in Venice from 2018 to 2022. Each fragment is placed in a timeless order of juxtapositions and contrasts between people, animals, objects and sounds. Randomness is thus the protagonist of a narrative based on details, instants and situations that inhabit and interact with the city.

Silvia Vecchiato (b. 1996, Venice, Italy) is an artist and video maker graduated in visual arts at IUAV, Venice. Her research focuses on moving images and the use of the smartphone as her main creation tool. She experiments with social media as an exhibition space: since 2017 she has been curator of , an Instagram project based on visual associations between images.

The work is dedicated to negative spaces of contemporary cities - inverse forms left by giant structures that make our sophisticated lifestyle work. These mega objects, monuments of modern acceleration, create vast and wild emptiness in the outskirts of our cities. Once futuristic highway scapes of the 60’s and enthusiasm about it today look frightening but are still true. Globalizing and interconnecting the world, these modern megaliths enclose our lives in the loop of endless circular migration.

Olga Trebuhina (b. 1989, Riga, Latvia) is a Riga based practicing architect, photographer, and artist. She studied in Latvia and Italy and graduated in Architecture & Urban planning at Riga Technical University (2013) and in Fine Art at the Art Academy of Latvia (2020). She engages in a variety of disciplines, media, and collaborations all gravitating around the creation and transformation of urban/ natural territories. Her research interest lies in bringing poetic instruments to investigate the city. Uncovering social and metaphysical issues of space, her photographic essays deal with portraying humanity through its habitat. Since 2016 her works have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Latvia and internationally, including I.U.A.V. (Venice, Italy) and the biggest art fair in Baltics ARTVILNIUS (Vilnius, Latvia).

The photo poems (available both in English and in Italian) are illustrations from Mira Mink`s art book. The book describes both the city and nature, the texts are part of one of MInk’s published works. The work also consists of two video artworks promoted by a grant of Arts and Promotion Center.

Mira Mink (b. 1982, Helsinki, Finland) is a Helsinki-based artist, teacher, producer and poet. Mink’s art projects are multimedia, combining music, poetry, paintings, woodcuts and installation. She likes experimenting with new materials such as recycled ones. The driving force of her production is the joy of writing (also in different languages) and the promotion of learning. Mink participated in the Outsider Art festival in the literature category. In 2022, she exhibited the video work and published the illustrated book Collection of Photopoetry with the support of the Art and Promotion Centre.

The current development of the metropolis wants to ensure maximum safety and elimination of crime within the cities. New technologies have become a key tool in the hands of the government to identify the criminal body. But what to do if, in a country armed with new technologies which has fixed its technological eyes on every corner, the question of justice is a subtle topic? In that case, all the technological tools that serve your country "to protect you" automatically turn against you, or at least this is the feeling. To carry out Webcam.me, a search of web archives with live broadcasts from surveillance cameras located in various points of the artist’s hometown St. Petersburg was made. It is as if she had the possibility of looking beyond the system, putting herself at the top, supervising and looking at herself from the outside, like an ordinary component of the city: how does she appear? How much does she blend in with the masses? How much does she look like an unstable element of the social system? Is she still a person or a set of pixels? Or maybe just an array of numbers and letters? What remains of her personal integrity after the digital analysis? The series with the placards tells of the impossibility of getting to the view of the governors, of being heard and listened to. The placards have become empty because of the resolution: as if they were muted. Low-resolution images blend the person leaving fuzzy pixels on a cold screen.

Anna-Valeria Mikhaylova (b.1997, St. Petersburg, Russia) has settled in Italy since 2014. Currently, she lives and studies in Milan. During the last ten years, she has experimented with various forms and mediums of expression, like drawing, animation, photography, sculpture, and new media. Her interest develops around the recycling of obsolete images, technologies, and materials that the artist puts into dialogue with cutting-edge technologies. In her latest creations, she focuses on social issues related to privacy and global surveillance.

This work is linked to the long tradition of the dyeing craft and its rich cultural history. The body of work is an experimental silk city map that reflects the colors of the artist’s everyday paths through the student city Halle an der Saale. You can see extracted plant colors dyed in textiles that she collected next to supermarkets, bus stops, park benches and bicycle wheels. The cityscape now shines in its color image, which is hidden to most city dwellers and an impulse arises to perceive our urban space independent of existing economic and traffic systems. It is her concern to show us as viewers the pure power of the natural resource from our immediate vicinity once again and to approach our possibilities in the urban space with new eyes. Likewise, to trigger an attitude of reverence, humility and respect through the power of color becoming visible and the expression of its resource. The gaze is opened. This principle is representative for any urban space and place of living.

Maria Mayer (b. 1991, Munich, Germany) studied at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art in Halle in the textile courses, painting / glass class and in the fashion class. Since 2019 she is working as an artist, researcher and educator. Projects have been funded as working scholarships by the Art Association of Saxony Anhalt, the Ministry of the Free State of Bavaria and other foundations. She has also developed artistic projects with FabLab Barcelona (BioLab) and Materialdesigners, Milan/Barcelona/London. In her studio, she experiments with the extraction of natural dyes and raw materials from her immediate environment and searches for human connections to nature. Her work focuses primarily on the medium of textiles and its rich cultural history. In 2022, she was honored with the Bavarian Prize for International Young Artists of Arts and Crafts. She is a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists in Germany.

Vivir es recordar, recordar es vivir, 2022

The characters of a city tell us its composition, our passage is made of memories, it is not material and often without a precise form, like a dream. This pictorial work portrays characters from a city, strangers who have inhabited or inhabit it without needing to show physiognomies or descriptions, it is the red bricks that suggest the place, it is the clothing and their particular colors that give us recognition of each one. The work pays homage to Italo Calvino's 'The Invisible Cities', creating a visual poem of what a city can be for the artist; experiencing and navigating it to create memories and experiences, and vice versa.

Eliel David Pérez Martínez (b. 1998, Oaxaca, Mexico) lives and works in Venice. After attending the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Oaxaca (2015-2017), he graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice (2017-2021). He is currently attending the second level course in Visual Arts with a focus on painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. Some of the artist's exhibitions, awards and residencies include the solo shows “SOTTOSOPRA” (Ethra Gallery, Mexico City, Mexico, 2022) and “Lluvia sobre el campo de magueyes” (Suburbia Contemporary, Barcelona, Spain, 2022); Atelier 2021-2022 (Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Palazzo Carminati, Venice); IN-EDITA 2, art residence (Forte Marghera, 2021); STUDIO, art residence (Palazzo Poli, Florence, 2021); e-Poison Green - The artists of the ateliers 2021-22 (Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, 2022).

Pieve di San Giovanni Battista a Corazzano, 2022

The work was created on a brick found near an ancient parish church in Corazzano. The brick was cleaned of excessive dirt and engraved, like a rupestrian painting, depicting the outline of the same building. On the sides, there are written words narrating the vitality of today and the memory of the inspiring subject. The work was conceived in Bologna, the city where the artist currently resides. It is a lively city, rich in every aspect either for those who live there or in terms of tourism. Tourism, however, often leads to an identity loss of a place, putting aside the history and culture hidden within. That is why Mandorlini chose to enhance the contrast with the church of his birthplace where centuries later the ancient traditions are still being practiced.

Marco Mandorlini (b.1998, Pontedera, Italy) lives in Corazzano - San Miniato (PI). He undertakes a very autobiographical type of research. His interest is focused on entering into a relationship with his birth place by having a so-called 'return', after having 'escaped', and seeing it through different eyes. The space/place takes on an importance in the identification of the person, 'practising the landscape' through the exploration and investigation of the elements. Marco holds a degree in Graphic Art from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, where he currently attends the Painting-Visual Arts course. His most recent participations include TAI how to // you too - open call (Prato, curated by Chiara Bettazzi); Idee per libri - workshop, Manifattura tabacchi (Florence - curated by Roberto Fassone); Estremi elastici - group exhibition (Office giovani, Prato) and Fare arte contemporanea (Prato), both curated by Estuario project.

The Sutura series invades space with its stitching. For the artist, Sutura represents the natural and coherent evolution of his concepts. The series digs deeply in the family theme: a father, a son, a mother translated into operating gowns, the artist's personal garments and sewing thread. It is of great significance for him to work with textiles that have a history, as he is very interested in retaining the experience and identity of the fabrics by changing their shape. Changing shape but retaining identity. The foundations of Sutura are surgical gowns, old sheets, T-shirts, trousers and personal garments. The works are entirely hand-sewn and represent abstract maps of his life. His dream is to trap his most intimate experience in his designs, trying to give the viewer a chance to identify with them.

Roberto Maria Lino (b. 1996, Naples, Italy) lives and works in Rome. In 2020, he graduated in Painting II with 110 cm laude from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Through the analysis of his own past, he tries to relive and re-imagine his childhood in a more dreamy way: from the age of four, Roberto was taken by his father to the operating room to witness open-heart surgery. In his works, Maria Lino mainly investigates family relationships, especially the one between father and son. Recycled materials dipped in history play a key role in his artistic research and, since eco-sustainability is an important aspect of his practice, he is committed to giving new life to already existing materials. Slow, obsessive gestures are a constant in Maria Lino's research; they take on a therapeutic function. Since 2013, he has exhibited in Rome, Naples, Turin, Saluzzo, Rieti, Biella, Florence, Venice, Milan, Riga and Frankfurt.

Venice - Wall Fragments is a metaphor for a fragmented and vulnerable, fragile world: not only from the architectural point of view but also taking into consideration society, culture, nature and the eternal circle of life revealing itself over and over.

Lotte Hubmann (b.1954, Stryia, Austria) lives and works in Graz, Austria. Her artistic expressions have been influenced by travels to the Orient (Afghanistan, Iran, Irak, Jordany, Syria, Turkey, Israel), to Great Britain, Ireland, to Mexico, the USA, India and the Mediterranean countries. She has always been absorbed and fascinated by the essence of nature - especially by the variety of stones and all sorts of material, by their different surfaces. Another major interest are structures, colors, light and shadows, reflections. The energy of light has touched and challenged her. Finding different relations form the basic character of her work by showing ways of life, traces of processes of all kinds and the flow in life. The main character of Lotte Hubmann´s artwork is observing and working with various materials as well as observing the permanent process of transformation evident in certain systems of order using different media like photography, painting, drawing, creating objects and textiles or installations.The playful use of color, structures, shapes and contrasts is an important aspect giving us a complex, and yet clear, view of her artistic work. Since 1977, she has participated in exhibitions in Austria and abroad.

While traveling on public transport, the artist usually notices many people asleep. Some are dozing soundlessly, but they all possess a special beauty: it is as if the vulnerability and ignorance into which sleep plunges them restored to them the innocence of childhood, it seems to be a 'holiday of the soul'. Sleep is experienced and understood as the abandonment of the body that allows the dream to escape material reality. Passing from the shadows to the golden light of the early morning hours or the twilight at the end of the day, Anne Solange's passengers travel peacefully but seem caught up in a flight of time, sitting on these trains speeding towards a devouring metropolis, imbued with the eternal youth of an instant of sleep, clutching their bags full of secrets. Worn out by the fatigue of a day spent in a city devouring human energy or finishing a night that was too short, all sitting in front of her, glimpsing a brief but sacred moment of their souls.

Anne Solange Gaulier (Metz, France) lives and works between Paris and the surroundings of Fontainebleau. She began to work on images dealing with the landscape created during her travels in Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania. Running through the world or the streets, Anne-Solange Gaulier recomposes life. Her artistic reflection is based on cultural impregnation, manifested in a constant but discreet way in her portfolios. She has been interested in the urban landscape since her stay in New York. People become a source of poetic inspiration for many works. They are the actors of life, installed in their small theaters; each one builds invisible borders, as if to protect himself from the other, from the city, from his environment. Since 1997, Anne Solange Gaulier has regularly exhibited her work in France and abroad, in galleries and art centers.

Sensitive Peregrinations, 2022

This interactive installation is the result of a research work on the theme of emotional cartography carried out during an artistic residence in Buenos Aires. It is composed of different materials collected and reworked as photos, cartographic elements from a participatory project. The goal is not only to highlight the contrasts of Buenos Aires visible in its architecture as well as in its spatial organization in neighborhoods, but especially the way people live it on the emotional level. Indeed, thanks to the topography of a city, it is all our life that comes back in memory, but also the life of others (close and less close). It is a personal journey that we make in the geography of the sensitive, the paths of the city in the labyrinth of our memories and our unconscious. All this has an impact on the way we live the city and therefore on the way we make it evolve together as a living organism. Moreover, the term "projection" is used not only to define the scientific method of creating a map but also in psychology to define what we project as feelings in our environment.

Sève Favre (b.1975, Sion, Switzerland) is an interdisciplinary Swiss-Belgian artist working in painting, drawing, installation and digital. Using mixed media techniques, she creates interactive artworks, installations and experiences through colors, materials. She focused on landscapes, colors compositions, climate and social change. In the last 4 years, she is fully devoted to the creation as well as the promotion of her artistic work in Switzerland and internationally. She has been exhibited in Switzerland and abroad (HongKong, Italy, Argentina) in Museums, Biennials (Bienalsur 2021, Biennale of Larnaca) and during residencies as in La Paternal Espacio Proyecto in Buenos Aires or ChaNorth Residency. She was nominated in the Installation and scupture category of the 14th International Arte Laguna Prize.
