Blast Theory Blast Theory makes interactive art. Blast Theory have been nominated for four BAFTAs and won the 2016 Nam June Paik Arts Center Prize.

Blast Theory has been making interactive artworks for 30 years, exploring the social and political aspects of technology and developing new forms of performance and interactive art. Renowned internationally as one of the most adventurous artists’ groups using interactive media, Blast Theory have presented work all over the world, from the Venice Biennale to the Sundance Film Festival.

The summer may be ending, but we’re getting straight into it: an evening of sharing, with a twist.

We’ll be leaning into a Japanese presentation style known as PechaKucha (Japanese for "chit-chat") - a fast-paced, image-focused presentation on your practice.

Everyone who wants to present gets two minutes to share what they've been making, exploring, or thinking about. The PechaKucha format forces you to keep things tight and focused - a surprisingly useful discipline.

This is an evening in two halves with a break in the middle for eating, drinking and chatting around the edges.

Have you signed up for Open Office?

Every creative person gets stuck.

Maybe it's a piece of tech that worked in rehearsal but collapsed in front of an audience, or a funding application that keeps getting a polite no, and you can't work out why. You might be wrestling to get a new project idea into shape and can’t see the wood for the trees. Or maybe you're working alone and just need someone to help you think through the problem out loud.

Whatever it is, it’s likely that Blast Theory artists, Matt and Nick, have been exactly where you are.

Open Office is a chance to have a short session with one of the Blast Theory artists and talk through whatever you're wrestling with: whether that's technical, creative, or practical. Between them, they've spent decades navigating the types of challenges that come with the territory for artists, and they look forward to - hopefully - getting you unstuck.

As this is a new format for us, we're starting by releasing 4 x 15-minute Open Office slots every month, exclusively to our newsletter subscribers.

Everyone who submits via our next newsletter will be entered into a draw. We’ll randomly select four people and notify them by 12/08/2026. The first Open Office session wiIl take place between 10 am and 11 am (BST) on Wednesday 26 August 2026.

A gynaecologist in Japan that closed 20 years ago. Nothing has been touched since.
