Our last graduate!

Amber van den Heuvel (1996)

I know I am not alone.
But knowing and feeling are two completely different things. Are they not, my love?
I need to find a way to match what I know with what I feel.
You need to help me; I can’t do this by myself.
I want to feel, intensely, that we are more than just me and you.
I want to feel, intensely, that we can be we.
That we have so much more in common than what first meets the eye.
If you would not have been there, never even existed, where would I then be?

Amber is an artist who always works around the theme of human connection. In her work she researches if meaningful connections are ‘makeable’ and what it then takes to create them. In her graduation work she will show how easy it is to connect and invites the spectator to connect with her and the work as well.

Joelle jochems 1998

Through her sculptures Joelle works with the subject of the finite and infinite, experience of time and memories. How do we deal with everything that has happened in the past and how does it influence our being in the here and now? Why do she cherish objects from the past, And why do we hold on to something that has already been?
By reconstructing aspects of her own memories she creates a new narrative and shows the transiency of materials and objects through her sculptures. Not only looking at the work is important but also smelling and feeling is required to fully experience her work.

Ewan McSorley(1995)
Ewan McSorley’s practice is situated in the collapsing of the subject/object hierarchy. He creates installations that try to dissect the materiality of things by showing their Spirit, becoming enveloped in the idea of what lies beyond something. Can you pull back the curtain and expose what is on the other side? How can we communicate with this material world?
