For the first time in Turkey’s art history, 84 works from the collection of the world renowned Centre Pompidou are being presented in an exhibition that will continue in rotating selections over the next five years.
This is a historic exhibition you simply should NOT miss.
Being able to experience the works of artists who shaped the course of art history ; Joan Mitchell, Gerhard Richter, and Wassily Kandinsky , from such close proximity was something entirely different for me.
And I must admit… for the first time in a long while, I stood in front of a work of art and truly felt something.
As I have always said, the trace of the human hand should remain in a work of art and within that trace, something of the artist’s soul. The hesitation in a brushstroke, the imperfection of a line, the touch left upon a surface… these are what remind us that the work was born from a human mind, from emotion, and from lived experience.
Perhaps this is the question we need to ask ourselves again today: as art becomes increasingly conceptual, polished, and intertwined with technology, are we gradually losing the connection between the artwork and the human being? When the trace of the human hand disappears, do we also begin to lose our connection with the artist’s soul?
And here, before us, are artists whose works embody precisely these qualities, artists who, perhaps for this very reason, have earned their place in art history.
Come to İzmir and experience their traces, their souls, and their time through the works they left behind.
Come and feel this exhibition 🌷
