UIE Ms. Classic

I’m proud to say that September marked the passing of my docent training! This month I’ll begin to shadow some tours and likely even lead a few 4th grade tours, myself! I’m also selfishly excited to share that the Telfair Museum has Michelangelo on loan. Michelangelo…in Savannah, GA. Insane.

In other news….Im buying a house! Should it all work out, I’ll be closing next month. Things are about to amp up even more, but there will be more updates to come!

Today marked day one of my training towards becoming a docent at the Telfair Museums in Savannah, Georgia. Fun fact: the museums were founded by Mary Telfair after she bequeathed her home to the Georgia Historical Society to be opened as a museum. It is the oldest operating art museum in the American South (est. 1886). The museums are comprised of three buildings: the Jepson Center where the children’s program is housed alongside modern art and exhibitions, the Telfair Academy which is home to 18th and 19th century works from the permanent collection, and the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters where guided tours explore art through the lens of the enslaved. Mary adored art and it is an honor to have the opportunity to share her legacy. Can you tell I’m excited? Pictured below are just a few pieces that stand out to me.

P.S. The vase is a Picasso 😉

The National Archives and Records Administration holds about 13.5 billion documents, of which only a fraction have been digitally transcribed. The handwritten cursive is difficult for AI to fully recognize. So, I’m doing recovery again!

You have to look at where you’ve been to know where you’re going and preserving these documents provides us with the necessary societal context to continue growing as human beings.

You can transcribe documents for free and at home by using https://www.archives.gov/citizen-archivist

Update: The restaurant I work at is nearly open, which is incredibly exciting. BUT! That means longer hours and a TIGHT schedule.

Did you know you can volunteer from home? For those of you who have mobility restrictions, don’t have transportation, etc there are opportunities out there.

My lovely mother introduced me to the Citizen Archivist Program where you can transcribe historical archives that need documented and catalogued.

I managed to get one in before I started dozing off, so next time I’m aiming for two to three, but as a puzzle lover, this very much scratched that itch.

Birds of a feather stick together and if you jump on these early bird specials you could be part of a sisterhood that:

🐦‍🔥supports all birdies equally
🐦‍🔥encourages individuality
🐦‍🔥champions inclusivity and accessibility

I saw so many different personalities and self-expressions at internationals. Tattoos weren’t covered up. All different ages of gorgeous women strutted their stuff. All levels of ability were treated with celebration and equality. No one tried to make us “perfect.” Every story mattered and no lady was ever left behind. I watched the competition halt and the judging put on pause for someone who became overwhelmed, stressed, and scared. The entire group, including Mrs. Chris and Mr. Tom, rallied behind her to protect her and to get her up on that stage in a way that made her feel seen, safe, and powerful. This is a system that actively helps you succeed in your authenticity rather than trying to box you into a one-size-fits-all mentality.

That’s empathy
That’s empowerment
That’s equality
That’s United International Elite

If that interests you, don’t miss out on these specials. We want to see you in all your beautiful uniqueness!

✔️ Stocking Savannah’s Free Little Libraries

☀️The sweltering southern heat and occasional road block didn’t get the best of me, although it did call for a matcha pit stop!

According to the world population review, Savannah’s poverty rate is just below 20%. That’s higher than both the state and national average!

Improved access to books can help individuals:
📖 access higher-paying jobs
📖 avoid financial exploitation
📖 make informed healthcare decisions

These two bags contain things ranging from history, to poetry, art, and even children’s books. Tomorrow, when it is safer for me to do so, I will distribute these amongst the free little libraries across the city. My hope is that just one of these books might change someone’s life.
