The Wadi draws you in, and you follow the moon.
I love painting a desert scene at low light, it is instant magic. I also love being outside at this hour of the day after sunset, when everything turn soft, and the most beautiful pastel colors pass over the sky and are reflected all around.

Usually I turn to compositions where there is a path that leads you deeper into the scene, where the trees are stepping stones from foreground, to middle ground, to background, located off center
But every once in a while I am tempted to break these rules and habits. Sometimes I want to give a tree center stage.
This acacia tree is so majestic with its huge canopy and its lovely shape, that I just wanted to put it in the center. There is nowhere to go in this little painting, there is just the tree. And the full moon, also centered, supporting the central place of the tree.
This is how I often find myself standing in front of a tree in the desert: just in awe. it captures my whole attention, it's not a supporting player, it's the main thing.

תוריים מדבריים בין שמש לצל. 25*25 ס"מ, שמן על קנבס
The real wartime heroes are these little flowers who just bloom no matter how many rockets fly above their heads. This little flower caught my attention because of how illuminated it looked, standing just at the line between light and shadow.

Some flowers, finally.
So much flowers at Nahal Ashosh, Aharonsonia featuring in the foreground, some קחוון הנגב, and probably a few more 🌻🌼🏵️

OK I really thought I'd be done with leaves and branches, but I couldn't leave it alone. let's see if next session I can turn to something else 😅

More progress today on the caper (almost done with it), and in the newly "discovered" area on the very left, which turned out nicely. Need to wait for it to dry to properly put those dry foreground branches over it.

I really need this one to be done 🥵 this is testing my patience!! I mean yes progress is fun and real, but I don't know how many times I've thought that this week I'll surely finish it, only to discover a whole new subproject on it. discovered this time: the ground area on the very left between the canopy and the dry grass. yay.

I needed something else, so I started on the sky of this one. I finished the toning and the sketch before the war, and since then the canvas has looked at me accusingly.

More work on the Acacia's canopy! Sharpening the branch movement, and adding sky holes. it's super complex to add sky holes in a chaotic branch network in such a big b size where every wrong symmetry jumps out. But it's coming together, and I'm starting to love it!

OK so progress looks really slow and insignificant in this video, but I tackled the detail in the acacia tree today and that felt like a big deal, and in reality it looks like a big change. I need the color to dry a bit and to keep adding more detail, to subtract some sky, etc pp. still lots of work!
