SCARF 12: Advancing Professional Standards in Dance and the Creative Sector
SCARF 12 continues its mission and advocacy to advance the dance and creative sector through meaningful conversations, professional development, and collaborative initiatives.
As part of the continuing growth of the Philippine Creative Industry, a Consultative Assembly on the Strengthening of Adjudicators’ Guidelines and Certification Processes was recently convened—laying the groundwork toward establishing stronger, clearer, and more professional standards for dance adjudicators in the country.
The initiative was spearheaded by Mr. Noel Garrovillo, one of the advisers of SCARF 12, in collaboration with the organization. This private sector-led initiative seeks to begin the development of professional guidelines, standards, and a roster of qualified adjudicators that can contribute to a more credible and consistent adjudication system in dance competitions and performances.
The assembly was enriched by the insights of distinguished leaders in the cultural and creative sector, including Ms. Marichu G. Tellano, former Executive Director of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and now co-convener of the initiative, and Mr. Oscar Casaysay, former NCCA executive.
The initiative also received support from TESDA, with Deputy Director General Nelly Nita Dillera sharing a message of support, particularly as TESDA continues to explore and advance competency-based certification pathways for choreographers and other creative professionals in the country. SCARF 12 gratefully acknowledges the support of the Province of Sultan Kudarat, Province of South Cotabato, and the Municipality of Isulan for helping make this important gathering possible.
This is more than a consultation—it is a beginning toward stronger standards, professional recognition, and a more empowered creative sector.
