Zana Hoxha is a theatre director and the founder and executive director of Artpolis and FEMART, the largest feminist festival in the Balkans. Most recently, she led the establishment of the Cultural Station in Prishtina, a new home for art, theatre, and community, transforming a former railway station into a vibrant cultural space.

A Swedish theatre director and playwright, Mattias Andersson has served as Artistic Director of the Royal Dramatic Theatre (Dramaten) in Stockholm since 2020. His work often draws on documentary material and personal interviews, exploring contemporary social realities and the complexities of human experience.

Teatro São Luiz in Portugal hosts 'Under the Shade of a Tree I Sat and Wept' from October 23 to 25

"With text by Jeton Neziraj, from Kosovo, dramaturgy by Greg Homann, from South Africa, and staging by Blerta Neziraj, also from Kosovo, the show brings together an international cast of seven performers from Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia and South Africa. The presentation takes place in English, Albanian and South African languages, with subtitles in Portuguese and English."

A renowned theatre director, Nübling has also directed opera and worked with leading German-speaking theatres, including the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, and Schauspielhaus Zürich.

Em 1990, no Kosovo, centenas de famílias presas a ciclos de rivalidade e conflitos de sangue iniciaram um movimento de reconciliação e de perdão. Cinco anos depois, após o apartheid, a África do Sul sentava vítimas e perpetradores frente a frente na Comissão da Verdade e Reconciliação.

“Under the Shade of a Tree I Sat and Wept” leva estas duas histórias reais para o teatro, com humor, irreverência e emoção. Um elenco do Kosovo, Albânia, Macedónia do Norte e África do Sul interpreta o texto de Jeton Neziraj, encenado por Blerta Neziraj.

Kriege schaffen Freiräume für schwarze Märkte – so auch vor 25 Jahren im von der UN verwalteten Prishtina. Nach Kriegsende im Juni 1999 herrschte akute Wohnungsnot, woraufhin die Unterwelt und Baufirmen über Nacht minderwertige, unregulierte Gebäude errichteten. Rexhep Luci, Architekt und Leiter der Stadtplanung, forderte wie Dr. Stockmann in Ibsens «Ein Volksfeind» Sicherheit sowie geordnete Planung. Dafür zahlte er den höchsten Preis: Am 11. September 2000 wurde er im Eingangsbereich seiner Wohnung in Prishtina von einem Unbekannten ermordet. Die Folgen für die Lebensqualität sind bis heute spürbar.

Gianina Cărbunariu (Romania) joins Kosovo Theatre Showcase 2026 as one of the speakers at our international theatre conference:

A Romanian theatre director and playwright, Cărbunariu is known for her documentary and politically engaged theatre. Drawing on interviews, archival research and contemporary social realities, her work examines power, collective memory and the complexities of recent Romanian and European history.
