PEACH PANI POPOS (2026)
Acrylic on unstretched canvas
45x55cm

Imagining a local beach bunny in Samoa 🐰🌊
It's a different scene.

Peach Pani. Peach Pani Popo.
Just for fun.

All my work is about stretching the ways Samoan women are painted.

And more importantly, playing with the ways we paint ourselves.

SPA DAY OF THE SISTERHOOD (2026)
Artist: Nikki Mariner
Acrylic on unstretched canvas
115x180cm

Inspired by my sisters' legs, and the third in this series, following AGM OF THE SISTERHOOD in 2024, and PICNIC OF THE SISTERHOOD in 2025.

I've been neglecting myself lately.

Full on busy preparing to move our gallery and keeping up with commissions and life in general.

For months, I haven't painted my toenails or exfoliated my skin or worn make up or done beauty care or anything like that. 💅🏾

It's work work work.
Drinking lots of water is about as much as I'm doing.

So this situation was weighing on my mind.

And instead of taking a day off to nurture myself, I did a painting about it 🤣

MOODY B***Y (2026)
[ #3 in the Moody Series]
Artist: Nikki Mariner
Acrylic on unstretched canvas
36x44cm

"Moody B***y is my diary entry from yesterday.
I painted my ankle & shoulder tattoos, as well as my thoughts written in the background, as a personal statement.

This is the third time I've worked this moody Matisse-type figure, first painted in 2018 (pic 6).
I then got it as a tattoo, and painted it again last year (pic 7).

She gets more abstract each time, and Ill enjoy seeing how the Moody series develops over the years.

Essentially, I keep painting it because I'm supporting my own, and anyone else's, right to be moody sometimes, as long as I don't take it out on anyone else."

RED TEUILA HEALERS (2026)
Artist: Nikki Mariner
Acrylic on unstretched canvas
124x183cm

Teuila - the beloved national flower of Samoa.

These flowers are everywhere on this island, waving in the breeze and easy to spot from far away.

Last year I featured the white teuila in a painting. It was elegant, poised and still.

In painting the red teuila, it became dramatic and showy. I wanted to capture the feel of the red teuila and drape them like dresses of women of Samoa.

I think the right home for this painting needs space.
It draws the eye in a powerful and intense way, even from a distance, just like the real flower.

WIND BENEATH MY WINGS (2026)
Artist: Nikki Mariner
Acrylic on stretched canvas
180x65cm

From the artist:

"I'm the firstborn and Rebecca is the 2nd born.
I was two years old when I got her as a best friend for life.

For many years we've joked singing 'Wind Beneath My Wings' to each other.
It's quite funny to sing these lyrics to your sister: "You always walked a step behind" or "it must have been cold there in my shadow"

But behind the joke is a lifetime of supporting each other through everything.

This painting is my birthday present to her.

In the past year, she bought some land and built a house, by herself. Very impressive.

So I wanted to paint in the colour palette which suits her new house, her style, and let's her know that I'm always proud of her and that we've got each other till the end.

The painting is inspired by two frigate birds - atafa - flying together, and the title is inspired by 'our song'."

SUNSET SISTERS (2026)
Artist: Nikki Mariner
Acrylic on unstretched canvas
245x184cm

This painting was commissioned by the youngest of seven sisters.
There are two sources of inspiration behind the colour palette and composition.
1. Sunset Goddesses (2024) which hangs in the much loved and award winning Paddles Restaurant in Apia.
2. A video of their mother's garden full of flowers in these sunset colours.

The buyer is heading to Samoa next week to collect her very large and very special painting.

LANU LAUAVA (2026)
Acrylic on unstretched canvas
180x120cm

Lanu lau‘ava describes the vivid green of lush landscapes and fresh foliage.

Created in Samoa and commissioned by Anasina Gray Barberio, Member of the Victorian Legislative Council representing the Australian Greens.

Women in formation, moving forward. A collective presence — a reminder that when one Samoan woman enters public office, she is not alone.

The painting was collected from the gallery by her mother.

This is my third piece in this style. First was 2024, Brown Girls Walking, for the VIP airport terminal at Falealo, second was Frangipani Flotilla in 2025 which was a private sale.
This one was guided by Sina's request for hues of green 💚
The perfect meaningful title was the idea of ❤️

I'm really excited that this painting created in Samoa will join Sina in her parliamentary workplace in Melbourne Australia and these tama'ita'i Samoa will stand with her in the important work she does.

GARDEN OF GIRLS (2026)
Acrylic on stretched canvas
270x180cm

First painting of the year.
I was thinking of a gardener with a passion for flowers and had seven daughters.
As she nurtures her garden to be healthy and beautiful, she nurtures her daughters.

The colour palette is inspired by colours in a garden.

Technically, this is the first time I've blended my two signature styles of a front facing group of sisters with the black hair background behind the faces like Lady Fingers and Daughters of the Waters, with a side profile group of figures like Frangipani Flotilla and Brown Girls Walking.
The blend was tricky but it worked and gave me a new direction.

The title gave me pause because I'd not usually refer to women as girls, however from the gardener mothers perspective, her daughters will always be 'the girls'. A Garden of Girls.

The buyer renovated her dining room for this artwork. They have found a loving happy home.
