Buffalo Bill's Wild West show wasn't Joe Black Fox's cup of tea. Sure, the crowds cheered, the lights were bright, and the pay was decent. But for a Lakota chief, the thrill of the hunt was replaced by the hollowness of reenacting it for gasps and applause. Yet, Joe wasn't bitter. He missed his tribe, the whisper of the wind through the Dakota grasslands, the scent of sage after a summer rain. But a promise was a promise, and Joe had given his word to Sitting Bull's nephew, a young warrior yearning for a taste of the white man's world.
One day, a new face appeared backstage. A skinny woman with eyes that held the wisdom of a thousand moons and a camera that seemed an extension of herself. This was Gertrude Käsebier. Unlike the gawking crowds, she saw the man beneath the headdress, the yearning in his gaze. She requested Joe's portrait, not as a savage warrior, but as a Lakota chief, a leader.
Intrigued, Joe agreed. In her studio, a haven of soft light and Navajo rugs, Käsebier captured not just his stoic features but the flicker of defiance in his eyes. Sessions turned into conversations, a bridge built between cultures. Joe spoke of his people, the vastness of the prairie, the harmony they once shared with the land. Käsebier listened, captivated.
One afternoon, Joe brought out a worn flute, its wood polished smooth by countless hands. He played a haunting melody, a song of longing for the land of his ancestors. The sound filled the studio, a stark contrast to the raucous cheers of the Wild West show. Tears welled in Käsebier's eyes.
"They will never understand," Joe said, his voice low. "The land is not just ground to walk on, it's our heartbeat."
Käsebier vowed to share his story. Through her photographs, she portrayed the Lakota people not as savage warriors, but as individuals with rich cultures and deep connections to their land. Joe, the reluctant performer, became an unwitting ambassador.
The experience awakened something in Joe. He started sharing stories with the other performers, correcting misconceptions, planting seeds of understanding. He couldn't change the show, but he could change hearts, one conversation at a time.
The photograph of Joe Black Fox, captured by Käsebier, became an iconic image. It wasn't just a portrait; it was a silent plea, a bridge between two cultures. And for Joe Black Fox, despite the confines of the Wild West show, it rekindled a spark of hope, a reminder that even in the heart of a manufactured world, the spirit of his people could endure.

The Washington Commanders are being sued by The Native American Guardians Association, which has been trying to get the Commanders to change the name back to Redskins.
The lawsuit states:
“The logo on the Redskin’s helmet is an actual person, it’s Chief White Calf. Every time they go out on that field, they were honoring Chief White Calf and they were battling on the football field with the same honor and integrity and courage. They should continue to honor that.”

Once upon a time, in the wide expanse of the American West, there lived two men whose paths crossed in the most unexpected of ways. Sam Elliot, with his rugged charm and steely gaze, was a cowboy through and through, while Graham Greene, with his gentle spirit and quiet strength, was a storyteller of the highest order.
Their meeting came one fateful day on the dusty streets of a small frontier town, where Sam Elliot found himself caught in a shootout with a band of outlaws. Bullets flew like angry bees, and the air crackled with tension as the two sides clashed in a battle of wills.
Amidst the chaos, Graham Greene emerged from the shadows, his eyes twinkling with mischief as he watched the scene unfold. With a calmness that belied the danger around him, he approached Sam Elliot and offered him a deal: his storytelling skills in exchange for Sam's prowess with a gun.
Sam Elliot, intrigued by the proposition, nodded his agreement, and together, they faced down the outlaws with a combination of bullets and words that left their enemies reeling. With each shot fired and each tale spun, they wove a tapestry of bravery and cunning that captivated all who witnessed it.
As the dust settled and the outlaws lay defeated at their feet, Sam Elliot and Graham Greene shared a knowing smile, their bond forged in the heat of battle and the warmth of storytelling. And as they rode off into the sunset together, their legend spread far and wide, a testament to the power of friendship and the magic of the Wild West.

Sacheen Littlefeather who refused to accept an Oscar On Marlon Brando behalf in 1973 has finally received and apology from The Academy.
When she stepped on stage at the Oscar’s this is what she said.
“Hello. My name is Sacheen Littlefeather. I'm Apache and I am president of the National Native American Affirmative Image Committee. I'm representing Marlon Brando this evening and he has asked me to tell you in a very long speech, which I cannot share with you presently because of time but I will be glad to share with the press afterwards, that he very regretfully cannot accept this very generous award. And the reasons for this being are the treatment of American Indians today by the film industry – excuse me – and on television in movie reruns, and also with recent happenings at Wounded Knee. I beg at this time that I have not intruded upon this evening and that we will in the future, our hearts and our understandings will meet with love and generosity. Thank you on behalf of Marlon Brando.”
Despite the boos and jeers coming from the audience, she maintained her composure. John Wayne attempted to physically attack her as she exited the platform and had to be restrained by security. By claiming that he was giving the medal on behalf of "all the cowboys shot in all the John Ford Westerns," Clint Eastwood made fun of her. Littlefeather was thereafter put on a Hollywood blacklist and never again engaged in the film business.
On September 17, 2022, Littlefeather will return to the Academy once again as a guest of honor.

In Cherokee culture, women held significant positions and enjoyed certain privileges and responsibilities.
Women in Cherokee society were considered equals to men and could earn the title of War Women. They had the right to participate in councils and make decisions alongside men. This equality sometimes led outsiders to make derogatory remarks, such as the accusation of a "petticoat government" by the Irish trader Adair.
Clan kinship was matrilineal among the Cherokee, meaning that family lineage and inheritance were traced through the mother's side. Children grew up in their mother's house, and maternal uncles held the role of teaching boys essential skills related to hunting, fishing, and tribal duties.
Women owned houses and their furnishings, and marriages were often negotiated. In the event of a divorce, a woman would simply place her spouse's belongings outside the house. Cherokee women had diverse responsibilities, including caring for children, cooking, tanning skins, weaving baskets, and cultivating fields. Men contributed to some household chores but primarily focused on hunting.
Cherokee girls learned various skills by observing and participating in their community. They learned story, dancing, and acquired knowledge about their heritage. Women were integral to the Cherokee society, and their roles played a central part in the community's functioning and adaptation to changing circumstances.

This beautiful sculpture was built by the Irish people in their own country to honor the American Choctaw Indian tribe. They were grateful because in 1847 the Choctaw people sent money to Ireland when they learned that Irish people were starving due to the potato famine. The Choctaw themselves were living in hardship and poverty, having recently endured the Trail of Tears.
And that is a lesson in how to be a person in this world.
Kindred Spirits is a large stainless steel outdoor sculpture in Bailick Park in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland. The shape of the feathers is intended to represent a bowl of food
