These are the irises of my parents.

For most of our lives, we recognize the people we love by looking into their eyes, yet we rarely stop to observe them.

Every iris is unrepeatable, shaped by nature into a pattern that has never existed before and will never exist again. Looking at them this closely feels like looking at a fingerprint of the soul, a reminder that every life leaves its own unique mark.

One lifetime together. Two different universes.

Sometimes the most extraordinary things have been looking back at us all along.

People often chase blue, green or amber eyes.
I don't.

Some of the most fascinating irises to photograph are the dark ones.

Deep brown, almost black. The eye color carried by most of the world's population.

At first glance, they can seem simple. But magnify them enough and an entirely different world appears: canyons, fractures, fibers, textures and intricate patterns hidden beneath the surface.

This iris comes from India. From a distance, it looks like a dark brown eye. Up close, it reveals a landscape of remarkable complexity, resembling dry riverbeds, ancient rock formations and distant worlds.

Light-colored eyes attract attention instantly.

Dark eyes reward those who take the time to look closer.

That's why they remain my favorite irises to photograph.
