Welcome to Handmadee, where creativity meets sustainability! Our brand name, “Handmadee,” signifies the essence of crafting by hand and our unwav

ering commitment to eco-friendly practices. Growing up in the heart of rural Vietnam, I was immersed in the art of handmade crafts, learning invaluable skills from the elders in my village. At present, as an adult, those childhood memories of craftsmanship have never faded; they blossomed into a profound passion. Handmadee emerged from this passion, driven by a desire to preserve traditional artisanal arts and promote sustainability. At Handmadee, we create a range of products, including handcrafted notebooks and bucket hats made from sustainable fabrics and natural materials. Additionally, we collaborate with artisans and businesses who share our mission, curating a collection that supports the growth of traditional handmade crafts. Our journey is not just about creating products; it’s about crafting a sustainable tomorrow. By choosing Handmadee, you’re not only indulging in unique, handcrafted items but also contributing to the preservation of traditional crafts and the protection of our environment. Beyond this, as we put sustainability at the heart of our business strategy, Handmadee puts aside a part of our annual revenue to develop traditional crafts villages, support reforestation projects, and indigenous cultural preservation. We profoundly understand that we are a part of the whole ecosystem, we are doing what we mean to do. WHAT WE DO...

The development of the industrial garment sector has reduced both the demand and production of traditionally dyed textile products. Additionally, limited market opportunities make the income from handicrafts unstable, leading young people to lose interest in traditional crafts.

In Cong Don, Nam Giang district, only a few people remain who know natural dyeing, and Madam Bling Hia is one of the last who knows how to dye with natural indigo. Here, indigo cultivation is rare, as it is not a viable livelihood source, so the plant is not widely grown in home gardens.

In the morning, we accompany her into the forest to gather indigo leaves. After three days of fermenting the indigo, it reaches the state you see here.

The Co Tu people use fresh indigo leaves for dyeing, unlike the Hmong, who process the leaves into indigo powder.
Regardless of the method, carrying out each step requires a significant amount of time and dedication from the artisan.

The Co Tu woman makes lime from seashells collected in the forest. After cleaning and drying them, she wraps them in banana leaves and roasts them over a fire, chanting a traditional Co Tu incantation beside the wood stove. Drawing on her experience, she knows when the shells are evenly roasted, at which point she opens the wrapping, removes any remaining impurities, and crushes the shells by hand to create lime. This lime is then added as an ingredient in the indigo fermentation process.
