A woman from Hoi An known as Hanh, locally called Ba Sau (“Ms. Six”), is captured in a candid moment exhaling a puff of smoke.
Her nickname comes from a Vietnamese tradition where children are often referred to by birth-order numbers; first-born children are commonly called Hai, meaning “Second.”
In her youth, she worked as an ice-cream vendor and is remembered for her habit of singing and bringing joy to those around her.
