Dungeon of Doom: Unearthed

In 1997, The Dungeon of Doom Haunted House opened its doors for the very first time at the Lake County Fairgrounds. It wasn't polished, it wasn't massive, and it surely didn't look anything like the attraction we have grown into today. But that first year mattered.

What started as a temporary haunted house with a small crew, limited resources, and a lot of learning on the day quickly became the foundation for something much larger. The early vision of The Dungeon was rough around the edges, but a massive player in the early Chicago-Land haunted house years. The drive to set it up and tear it down every year, improve the show, and continue to push forward started 30 years ago. 30 seasons later that drive is alive and well.

The 30th season will kick off early this season on Friday, September 26th with Slasher Nights, Blackout, and Sub Thermal Nightmare returning for two nights only later in the season.

Dungeon of Doom: Unearthed

We have come a long way over the last 30 years. What started in 1997 as a small, gritty haunted house has turned into a 30 year legacy with a small team of people refusing to let this thing die. The Dungeon of Doom has never just been one building, one layout, or even one version of the show. It has changed, moved, been rebuilt, and evolved constantly to prove its place in the powerhouse Midwest haunted house market.

Over the next few weeks we're going to dig into a few of the key moments in our past that helped shape the attraction into what it is today. Some longtime fans will remember these chapters, while some of you may be seeing them for the first time.

30 years later, the legend is still alive.
