No. 16 Arizona Western volleyball swept Phoenix College 3-0 (25-7, 25-19, 25-13) on Monday at home, improving to 19-0 on the season while head coach Lorayne Chandler earned her 200th career win at Arizona Western College.

How It Happened

The Lady Matadors wasted no time setting the tone, dismantling Phoenix College 25-7 in the opening set on a .350 team hitting percentage with 10 kills and just three errors in 20 attacks. The seven points allowed in the first set was the opponent's lowest single-set total of the season. Maria Maeda (Bunkyo-ku, Japan) was the engine throughout, and the Lady Matadors' serve game added immediate pressure — Arizona Western posted 10 service aces as a team across the match while committing just five service errors.

The second set brought a brief offensive lull — AWC posted a -.032 hitting percentage with nine attack errors — but the Lady Matadors' defense and serving kept Phoenix College at bay, closing out the set 25-19. The third set was a return to dominance: Arizona Western hit .290 with 14 kills on 31 attacks, the team's highest kill total in any set on the night, to close the sweep 25-13.

Statistical Leaders

Maeda was the offensive centerpiece, finishing with 17 kills, three service aces and five digs on a .452 hitting percentage for a match-high 20 points. Yebin Ban (Gwangsan-gu, South Korea) ran the offense with 18 assists and led the team with six digs, adding two service aces. Yery Acosta (Medellin, Colombia) provided secondary punch with six kills on a .273 hitting percentage for six points. Noemi Marinho (Brasilia, Brazil) contributed nine assists, two service aces and two digs off the bench as the secondary setter. Maria Eduarda Marques (Sao Paulo, Brazil) added four kills on a .375 hitting percentage and a block assist in the middle. It was a milestone win for the program with every Lady Matador on the roster got in on the action.

Milestone Achieved: 200 Coaching Wins

Head coach Lorayne Chandler won her 200th career game at Arizona Western College with Monday's sweep — a milestone that stands as a testament to her sustained excellence at the helm of the Lady Matadors program. Every player on the Arizona Western College roster saw the floor, making it a true team celebration. Chandler reflected on the achievement postgame.

"It feels like 200," Chandler said with a smile. "I'm happy to have done it and happy this is the group I did it with."

Coach Chandler then quickly turned the attention off herself and back on to her team.

"I thought the girls did a good job of handling and executing well," Chandler said. "We did a good job staying focused. We worked on some serving locations and I felt the girls did a good job of executing, I thought with our defense, I thought we did a little bit better job of being mindful of being stopped and being in the right place."

Chandler credited the entire roster for making the milestone special.

"Games like this give us the opportunity to get some of our non-starters in," Chandler said. "It just gives them an opportunity to see what that's like and make sure that whenever they are called on that they can get out there and play."

The Lady Matadors also moved up in the NJCAA Division I Volleyball coaches' poll Monday, climbing from No. 17 to No. 16.
