Spotlight on Hi-Desert Artist Krista Wargo!
Krista Wargo is interested in paying attention.
Living in the Mojave Desert has made her especially aware of light, color, texture, and the small changes that can make an ordinary place feel completely different. She paints the things she finds herself looking at again and again—rocks, boulders, plants, buildings, and bits of the landscape that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Much of Krista’s work begins outside, painting directly from observation. She likes the challenge of trying to capture not just what something looks like, but what it feels like to stand in front of it. A boulder becomes more than a boulder when you spend enough time looking at its shape, its shadows, its colors, and the marks left by weather and time.
She’s drawn to ordinary things because they are rarely as ordinary as they first appear. Her paintings are an invitation to slow down, look a little longer, and notice what is already there.
Krista’s goal is simple: to make the ordinary noticeable.
