Yuba Sutter Youth Symphony

The Yuba Sutter Youth Symphony is opening student applications for our 2025-2026 Season!

Students interested in participating in the Yuba Sutter Youth Symphony are encouraged to complete an application. Students can apply for either the Intermediate or Advanced Orchestra, with Advanced students requiring an audition for placement within the orchestra.

Applications are due on Tuesday, August 19th at 11:59 PM by email to [email protected]. Please make sure you are completing the audition form for the group you are trying to apply for.

Auditions for Advanced Orchestra will take place at River Valley High School’s Orchestra room on Tuesday, August 26th, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM. For students who are auditioning, be prepared to perform the following:
- One 2 octave scale of your choice (3 octaves recommended for Violin 1, 1 octave for Bass).
- An excerpt of a piece of your choosing, demonstrating your current playing ability.
- A sight reading excerpt, provided at the audition.

Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 7:00 PM to 8:50 PM in the orchestra room (Advanced) or from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the choir room (Intermediate) at River Valley HS in Yuba City. Our first rehearsal and mandatory parent meeting is Tuesday, September 2rd.

- Tuesday, October 21 - No Rehearsal
- Tuesday, November 11 - No Rehearsal
- Tuesday, Nov 25 - No Rehearsal
- Tuesday, December 16 - Winter Concert @ St. Andrew
- Tuesday, January 2 - Rehearsals Resume
- Tuesday, February 17 - No Rehearsal
- Saturday, February 7 (TBD) - Young Artist's Concert & Concerto Competition with YSS @ St. Andrew
- Saturday, March 7 - Dream Big Concert @ Oroville State Theater
- Tuesday, April 7 - No Rehearsal
- Tuesday, April 28th - Summer Concert @ St. Andrew

Tuition and fees are $300 for Advanced Orchestra, and $200 for Intermediate Orchestra. Please bring tuition to the first rehearsal and parent meeting. We're inching closer to the start of our new 2023-2024 rehearsal year! Here's an update on some dates as we go into our new rehearsal year:
- Rehearsals will be taking place on Mondays for our first portion of the year.
- Advanced Orchestra Applications are due on September 5th.
- Advanced Orchestra Auditions are on Monday, September 11th, at 6 PM at River Valley High School.
- Our first rehearsal is on Monday, September 18th, at 7 PM. Our mandatory parent meeting is also taking place on the same night.
- Our first concert is on Tuesday, October 24th.

Our advanced orchestra application is on our YSYS website (https://ysys.webs.com/), and should be emailed to [email protected]. Our intermediate orchestra application is also on the YSYS website, and also should be emailed to [email protected].

Audition requirements for the advanced orchestra are posted on our YSYS website, but a summarized list is included below. As a reminder, the intermediate orchestra does not require an audition, and simply teacher recommendation.
- Strings. 2 octave G Major and Minor scales (3 octave for 1st violin), or equivalent; a solo piece indicative of your current playing level; sight reading.
- Winds/Brass. 2 octave Major and Minor scale of choice; a solo piece indicative of your current playing level; sight reading.
- Percussion. One major and minor scale of your choice on pitched percussion, or equivalent; a solo piece indicative of your current playing level on instrument of choice; sight reading.
