📢 Important Update Regarding Market Lamb & Goat Carcass Data

To our Market Lamb and Market Goat exhibitors and families,

We want to share an important update regarding the carcass data from this year's Yuba-Sutter Fair Market Lambs and Goats.

Superior Farms, the processor for our market lamb and goat projects, has informed us that due to an unexpected failure of their camera grading system, the carcass data for this year's animals was unfortunately not captured and cannot be recovered.

We know how valuable this information is to many of our exhibitors. Carcass data provides important educational feedback and is an excellent tool for evaluating genetics, nutrition, management, and overall project success. We understand the disappointment many of you will feel, and we share that disappointment.

Superior Farms has expressed their sincere apology and has assured us they are actively investigating the cause of the system failure and implementing corrective measures to help ensure this does not happen again in the future.

While we know this doesn't replace the information that was lost, we appreciate Superior Farms being upfront about the issue and taking responsibility for what occurred.

Thank you all for your understanding and patience. We appreciate the hard work each exhibitor put into their projects this year, and we're proud of everything you accomplished at the 2026 Yuba-Sutter Fair. ❤️🐑🐐

Yuba-Sutter Fair Statement Regarding the Junior Livestock Auction

We understand that the Junior Livestock Auction can raise questions, especially for those unfamiliar with how youth livestock projects work.

Market animals exhibited through 4-H and FFA are raised as educational projects with the understanding that they are intended for harvest following the Junior Livestock Auction. Unlike the majority of county fairs throughout California, the Yuba-Sutter Fair does not follow a terminal market animal policy requiring animals sold through the Junior Livestock Auction to be harvested. While buyers have the option to retain an animal through the Fair’s live release policy, that option was established as an exception—not the primary purpose of the program.

The primary purpose of the livestock exhibit program is to educate youth while raising high-quality market animals that help feed our local communities and uphold the integrity of agricultural education. Throughout their projects, youth learn responsibility, animal husbandry, business management, financial literacy, and the realities of the livestock industry. The Junior Livestock Auction is the culmination of those educational projects.

The live animal release fee is not intended as a “money grab.” It is designed to preserve the integrity of the livestock exhibit program, support its primary purpose of educating youth while raising high-quality market animals that help feed our local communities. The fee helps to cover the additional administrative expenses that are incurred for a live animal pickup. The leftover funds are then re-invested into the youth livestock program through the Yuba-Sutter Fair Heritage Foundation, a 501c.3 organization—who organizes and operates the Yuba-Sutter Fair Jr. Livestock Auction.

We recognize and respect the strong bonds youth develop with their animals. Those relationships are an important part of the learning experience and help teach compassion, responsibility, and respect for animal care.

We appreciate everyone’s passion for animals and welcome respectful questions about the program.

Our goal is to educate the public about the purpose of youth livestock projects while continuing to support the next generation of agricultural leaders and the future of agriculture in our community.
