There is something special about seeing purpose in motion. 📚✨

We were honored to have local author Tenaya South stop by Black Stone. As the author of Reasons 4 Loyalty, she continues to pour into others through her words and her story.

We're grateful for her visit and proud to share that her books are available in-store while supplies last. Wishing Tenaya continued success and God's blessings on all that lies ahead.

📚✊🏾 COMMUNITY. CULTURE. LITERACY. ✊🏾📚

The 29th Annual Ann Arbor African American Downtown Festival is in full swing, and we want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has stopped by the Black Stone Bookstore booth today.

Every conversation, every book purchased, every recommendation shared, and every new connection made reminds us why Black Stone Bookstore exists. We are more than a bookstore—we are a place where stories are preserved, history is honored, knowledge is shared, and community is strengthened.

It has been inspiring to see families introducing children to books that reflect their heritage, lifelong readers discovering new authors, and community members investing in literature that educates, empowers, and uplifts.

If you haven't had a chance to visit us yet, there's still time! Stop by our booth, browse our carefully curated collection, and meet Kip Johnson, co-owner of Black Stone Bookstore, who is representing us throughout the festival.

🎤 And don't miss our very own Athena Johnson, performing live at 4:15 PM. Be sure to show her some love and support as she takes the stage!

🏪 Can't find the book you're looking for at the festival? Our brick-and-mortar bookstore is open today during regular business hours. Feel free to stop by the store, where our Book Associate Joy is ready to assist you in finding your next great read.

Whether you visit us at the festival or in the store, we are honored to be part of a community that values culture, education, and the transformative power of books.

Thank you, Ann Arbor, for continuing to support independent bookstores, Black authors, and spaces where knowledge and community thrive.

🚨 TODAY IN YPSILANTI 🚨

Every scar has a beginning.
Every testimony has a story.

Today, Detroit author Aaron Foster is live at Black Stone Bookstore & Cultural Center for an exclusive signing of his debut book The Beginning — a powerful story about manhood, struggle, faith, survival, and transformation.

Raised in Detroit and shaped by real-life experiences, Aaron shares a journey many people live through but few are brave enough to tell.

This is bigger than a book signing.
This is community. Healing. Growth. Purpose.

Still reflecting on the powerful afternoon we shared at Black Stone Bookstore & Cultural Center this past Saturday.

Thank you to everyone who came through, sat in conversation, listened, shared memories, purchased books, and helped create the kind of atmosphere you can’t manufacture. The room was filled with genuine dialogue, wisdom, reflection, laughter, and community across generations.

Hosting Shushanna Shakur and hearing her speak on the life, work, and legacy behind Memories of My Revolutionary Brother, Chokwe Lumumba reminded us that bookstores can still be gathering spaces — places where stories live, where people connect, and where history is passed hand to hand instead of being forgotten.

To everybody that continues to support this space, thank you. Every event attended, every book purchased, every conversation had in these aisles helps keep independent cultural spaces alive and rooted in the community.

Signed copies are available in-store while supplies last. Unsigned copies are available online at Black Stone Bookstore & Cultural Center.

We appreciate y’all more than you know.
