Stambaugh Youth Concert Band

The SYCB is made up of the top high school musicians from Northeast Membership in the organization is possible through auditions.

The Stambaugh Youth Concert Band (SYCB) is made up of the top high school musicians from Northeastern Ohio and Northwestern Pennsylvania. The band rehearses Tuesday evenings from September to April and puts on two concerts annually in the Stambaugh Auditorium Concert Hall. The band features a senior soloist at the bands spring concert, this solo position is selected through an audition process. Th

e band is currently under the direction of John Veneskey, Dr. Brandt Payne, Tyler Husosky, and Eric Bable. Director of Bands from Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music Dr. Stephen Gage often guest conducts the band. The Executive Director of the Youth Band is Tom Groth.

🎶 A HISTORIC YEAR FOR THE SYCB! 🎶

The Henry H. Stambaugh Youth Concert Band (SYCB) is proud to celebrate an incredible year of milestones during the 2026–2027 season!

This year marks:
🎉 25 Years of the Stambaugh Youth Concert Band
🏛️ 100 Years of Stambaugh Auditorium
🇺🇸 America’s 250th Anniversary

We are planning a special season filled with music, history, celebration, and opportunities to bring together current SYCB musicians, alumni, conductors, composers, and our community.

🎵 SPECIAL EVENTS THIS SEASON

📅 November 17, 2026 — Fall Concert
Our season opens with a program celebrating American music and the rich history of Stambaugh Auditorium.

🎓 January 31, 2027 — Alumni Reunion Concert
A special afternoon/evening celebrating 25 years of SYCB! Former members and conductors will be invited back for an alumni gathering, dinner, and a special performance featuring alumni joining the current ensemble.

🎉 April 13, 2027 — 25th Anniversary Celebration Concert

Our culminating anniversary celebration will feature guest composer/conductor Mike Kamuf and the world premiere of his commissioned five-movement work, Beneath the Pillars, exploring the history of the Youngstown area, and Stambaugh Auditorium from its beginnings through the modern era.

⭐ 25TH ANNIVERSARY MERCHANDISE
A special SYCB 25th Anniversary logo is currently being designed and will be featured on anniversary merchandise throughout the year!

This is more than just another concert season — it is a celebration of 25 years of young musicians, music education, tradition, community, and memories.

We can't wait to celebrate this historic year with our musicians, alumni, families, supporters, and the entire Youngstown community!
