Here's my artist's statement for a new small show, "Animalia," at the Kent Free Public Library in Kent, NY during May. Consider taking a trip to their beautiful space, near Carmel!

Animalia:
I am a portrait artist, but that subject matter extends beyond human beings. I love
capturing the spirit of the many animals, birds, fish and other living creatures who share
the earth with us.
In this show, I’ve selected a few works that showcase inhabitants of land, sky and water. Some are pets - some are working animals - and some are independent. I’ve also included a few people, also members of the animal kingdom.
My goal with this show is to share some beauty using several different media. I have
included oil paintings, pastels, pencil, pen and ink, and prints. The fish print was
originally created on silk.
My theme in bringing these images together is harmony, respect and peace.

I'm happy to be one of the art instructors who will be doing a portrait demonstration at this free all-day event! Come if you can - the Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden is lovely, and my friend, wonderful fashion designer Jane Wilson-Marquis, will be having an opening as well (at 2 PM).

Thank you to the Field Library bookstore for displaying my paintings since February! (They are in this picture). I look forward to seeing more PAA artists there soon.

The Field Bookstore’s window gallery has recently showcased work by members of the Peekskill Arts Alliance.

Field now invites all interested Peekskill Arts Alliance members to take part in rotating displays that explore seasonal themes and color stories, turning the bookstore window into a place where passersby can stop, look, and feel a connection with the creative community. Artists are invited to curate the window as they like!
