The York Music Group works as a central hub for any and all things music-related at York College and the greater Central PA Music Scene.

York Music Group (YMG) is a student-run club that offers the students of York College of Pennsylvania relevant, experiential learning while also providing professional services in record production, concert management, and production to local artists throughout the region. As a business simulation, YMG serves students and the local community with YCP Studios (an educational and commercial recordin

g facility) and York Volume (a student-operated record label and concert production company). An organization actively involved in the community, YMG seeks to connect the students of York College of Pennsylvania to the greater York community and beyond. YMG provides students with hands-on experiences that will serve them beyond college. While skills obtained during their time with YMG will empower and embolden students, these skills are combined with effective networking and outreach strategies. Professional development is certainly part of our company culture (resumes, portfolios, etc.), and recognizing the ever-changing context of the music industry, we act as a networking hub designed to offer students and local artists regular opportunities to connect with producers, attorneys, agents,
managers, executives, and even rock stars!

Since 2012, producers Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland have become known for their consistent quality output and super-efficient workflow among regional, national and international artists. The two opened a boutique recording studio in Lancaster, PA called Atrium Audio and spent years establishing their reputation as a powerful production team, particularly in the rock and metal genres. In 2018, Carson and Grant relocated operations to Think Loud Studios in York, PA, owned by members of the multi-platinum rock band Live. The two ran Think Loud for several years before deciding to pursue building their own new studio from the ground up on PA’s Rock Lititz campus.

Carson and Grant have also spent the last few years touring as the galaxy’s foremost instrumental Star Wars cosplay heavy metal John Williams tribute band, Galactic Empire. Their first music video was a viral hit, gaining over 10 million views with national press coverage including Huffington Post, Guitar World, Entertainment Weekly, and MSNBC, along with a live TV performance on E! Entertainment during their coverage of the 2016 Academy Awards. The band has released two full-length albums with Rise Records (produced and mixed by Carson and Grant), along with four more music videos. They’ve toured extensively, headlining multiple national and overseas tours, including Canada, Europe, Japan, and Australia, along with appearances at major festivals, comic cons, sporting events, and supporting arena acts Ozzy Osbourne and Babymetal.

TONIGHT at 7:00pm, TODD FOGDALL will be joining our YMG meeting!

Todd is the President and CEO of the Appell Center for the Performing Arts and the Vice President of Pennsylvania Presenters, an organization that "champions its members in the presentation of artistically excellent, culturally diverse, and broadly entertaining performing arts programs that benefit their communities." Todd will be discussing his background in the music industry as well as his experiences with the Appell Center.

We are very much looking forward to having Todd at our meeting! Hope to see you there!

The gives foundation provides an easy option to allow ANYONE (students, parents, alumni, community, etc.) to help support our goals here at YCP. Thank you to all those who have been here for us throughout the years!

Our Story

York Music Group (YMG) was created out of the need to keep with the ever-changing music industry, and to better replicate a real-world media conglomerate for the students of York College of Pennsylvania to learn from. Showcasing and producing the best music in central Pennsylvania, we are a fully operational, student-run business that offers the students of York College of Pennsylvania relevant “experiential” learning while also offering clients professional services in record production, concert management and production, and publishing. As a business, YMG is based on a corporate model and includes the following divisions: YCP Studios (an educational and commercial recording facility); YCP Records (a student-operated record label); York Live (concert promotions, management, and production); 112 Music (music publishing); and the Music Industry Student Association (lectures, panel discussions, and conferences). An organization actively involved in the community, YMG seeks to connect the students of York College of Pennsylvania to the greater York community and beyond. YMG provides students with hands-on experiences that will serve them beyond college. While skills obtained during their time with YMG will empower and embolden students, these skills are combined with effective networking and outreach strategies.
