Appell Center for the Performing Arts Where performing arts, education and community come together as a home for all your stages in Downtown York, PA. 🎭
(1101)

Located in downtown York, the Appell Center for the Performing Arts serves as a leading arts presenter in south central Pennsylvania. The complex encompasses five buildings, including its two historic theaters – the Capitol Theatre, built in 1906 as a one-level dance hall and the Strand Theatre, which opened in 1925 primarily for vaudeville and silent movies. The center offers a diverse choice of shows, ranging from rock concerts and symphonies, to musicals and stand-up comedy.

"Poetry is a matter of life, not just a matter of language." βœοΈπŸ“–πŸŒΉ
Lucille Clifton's famous words remind us that poetry is more than words on a pageβ€”it is a reflection of life, a way to connect with each other and a force that can inspire and transform.

Last Friday, 14 of Central PA's best spoken word performers brought the history of poetry to life onstage, each embodying a pivotal poet from the 1800s to the present day. Through their performances, The Lancaster Living Poetry Museum gave audience members the chance to experience these influential voices in a whole new way.

Thank you to all who joined us in the Capitol Theatre! Congratulations to all of the performersβ€”your passionate portrayals made the evening truly special. ✨

This week, the arts have suffered a great loss of two legends who touched our hearts through music, film, television, theatre and their larger-than-life spirits. We want to take a moment to honor their legacies. πŸ’”

πŸ¦‹ Dolly Parton (1946 - 2026) paved her own path in the country music industry, serving as a trailblazer for other female artists to come. Her songs have been beloved for decades and her work in film made a cultural impact for generations of fans. Dolly always stayed true to her heart and used her platform to make a difference in the world.

🎬 Tim Curry (1946 - 2026) was a cult classic icon, best known for the larger-than-life characters he portrayed, including but certainly not limited to Dr. Frank-N-Furter on stage and screen in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Pennywise in the 1990 TV adaptation of Stephen King's "It," Wadsworth in Clue and Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island, plus several notable stage performances. His charisma, sincerity and true artistry made him an undeniable force in entertainment.

Join us in celebrating the legacy these two icons left on the arts. We invite you to share your favorite memories or connections to them. ✨
