I think one of the saddest things we do…

…is spend our entire childhood trying to grow up.

Then spend the rest of our lives trying to find that kid again.

The kid who thought a creek was worth stopping for. Who could disappear into the woods for hours with nothing but a stick and an imagination. The kid who collected rocks that nobody else understood, came home soaking wet because it rained, and somehow made an ordinary Tuesday feel like the greatest adventure on earth.

Somewhere along the way we traded wonder for schedules. Curiosity for deadlines. Looking up for looking down.

Maybe that’s why this meme hit me so hard.

My grandson is ten years old. He’s still that kid. The one who sees stories where most of us just see trees. Instead of outgrowing that imagination, he wrote his first chapter book, The Forest. I hope he hangs onto that part of himself for the rest of his life. Truth is… I hope we all do.
