When you and your funeral bestie from William R. May Funeral Home, Inc. get to spend a weekend together 🍾 ❤️

Our husbands may very well leave us here on the island by the end of the weekend, and quite frankly, I’m not seeing the problem.

We’ve already discussed it.

We’d be just fine 💁🏼‍♀️🍹

⚰️ WHEN SOMEONE IN FUNERAL SERVICE SHOULD KNOW BETTER.

We believe in education. We believe in transparency. We believe in having difficult conversations.

But we also believe in something that should never be negotiable.

DIGNITY AND RESPECT FOR THE DECEASED.

Recently, an individual with a reported background in funeral service left sexually inappropriate comments on our page involving deceased individuals and our hosts, Katharine Wagner-Elfner and Chris Boggs.

And we’re addressing it.

Not because we can’t handle criticism.

Not because everyone has to agree with us.

But because the families who entrust their loved ones into the care of funeral professionals deserve to know that dignity and respect aren’t simply words we use in our advertising.

They’re standards we should live by.

In this video, Chris discusses why these comments are concerning, the responsibility that comes with working in funeral service, and why professional accountability matters.

A person’s comments don’t establish misconduct in their professional work. But public conduct matters, especially in a profession built on extraordinary trust.

🎥 WATCH THE VIDEO and join the conversation.

Should funeral professionals be held to a higher standard when speaking publicly about the deceased?

We want to hear from funeral professionals AND the families we serve.

Education Replaces Fear.
Conversation Replaces Confusion.
Transparency Builds Trust.

CONVERSATIONS WORTH HAVING.

NEXT UP ON AS THE HEARSE TURNS!

On Thursday, November 5th at 7:00 PM EST, Katharine and I will be joined LIVE on Facebook by Dr. Jennifer Lares, CFSP — The Mulling Mortician!

Jennifer brings a seriously impressive background to the table. She’s a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, funeral service educator, former U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman specializing in Mortuary Affairs, and has more than eight years of combined experience serving as a Department of Defense Mortician.

She’s also the founder of Mulling Mortician LLC, where she provides practical training and education for funeral service professionals both virtually and onsite.

And you already know how we do things on As The Hearse Turns — this isn’t going to be some stiff, scripted interview.

We’re going to talk funeral service, education, embalming, mortuary affairs, what she has learned throughout her career, and probably wander down a few roads nobody planned on. 😂

📅 November 5th
⏰ 7:00 PM EST
📍 LIVE right here on Facebook

Drop a question below that you’d like us to ask Jennifer, share this post, and tag somebody in funeral service who needs to join us.

Education replaces fear. Conversation replaces confusion. Transparency builds trust.

One of the most frequently asked questions we get here on Facebook is: How do we move someone from an embalming table to dressing table, or from a dressing table to a casket? ⚰️

It’s a great question, because once someone is in our care, there are several different times throughout the process when they may need to be safely moved ~ from the embalming table to the dressing table, into the casket, or into refrigeration.

And no, we’re not just picking someone up and hoping for the best. There are specific pieces of equipment and techniques we use to make these transfers safer for the person in our care and for our staff.

So today, we’re going to show you exactly how we do it with our overhead lift from Mortuary Lift Company.

Embalming isn’t one size fits all. Each person in our care has different needs, and choosing the right chemicals is an important part of the process. We consider their condition, medical history, and the results we’re working toward to help with preservation and a natural appearance. It takes knowledge, careful assessment, and adjustments along the way 💕

There’s something powerful about hearing someone talk about what it took to simply become comfortable being themselves.

In this clip, Tim McLoone talks about his own experiences with authenticity — being who he is, owning it, and not feeling like he has to fit into someone else’s idea of what a funeral professional is supposed to look like or sound like.

That conversation matters.

Because funeral service is made up of real people with different stories, different backgrounds and different experiences.

And sometimes the best thing we can do — in this profession and in life — is stop trying to be the version of ourselves we think everyone else expects.

Be good at what you do.

Treat people well.

Stand behind your values.

And be authentically you.

This was just one small part of a much bigger conversation with Tim, and if you missed the full episode, you can catch it here:

You truly NEVER know what kind of shenanigans Katharine or I might pull during an As The Hearse Turns live. 😂⚰️

And honestly… that’s kind of the point.

We’re funeral professionals, but we’re also just normal, everyday people. We laugh. We cut up. We give each other a hard time. Sometimes apparently wigs become involved. 😂

We can have an absolute blast and still have meaningful conversations, educate people about deathcare, answer the questions people are sometimes afraid to ask, and keep pushing our message of transparency forward.

Funeral service doesn’t always have to feel dark, stiff or uncomfortable.

Sometimes education works a whole lot better when people feel like they’re sitting around talking with friends.

That’s what we want As The Hearse Turns to be.

If you missed this episode, go check out the full conversation — and yes, you’ll get to see whatever happened here in context. 😂

Education. Conversation. Transparency.

…and apparently the occasional surprise wig. 😂⚰️

Cremation allows for thousands of options for urns, keepsakes, jewelry and many more methods of memorializing your loved one. But quality is important! So when World of Urns reached out and said they would like to send me some urns for my honest opinion I said “heck yeah”!

So this is PT.2 of my unboxing of the last 3 or 6 ⚱️ urns that they sent me.

So take a look and let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Let's Unbox some URNS at the Funeral Home and give our honest opinion. Let me know your thoughts. This is the first 3 or 6 URNS that I received.
