Last night, the bombshell officially dropped on Broadway! The HUDSON team had a blast working with Beowulf Boritt to build the world of SMASH Broadway and its show within a show. Some of the fabrication highlights include tracking and rotating periaktoi, shape-shifting deck units, a ✨ bejeweled ✨Marilyn Monroe drop, and the glittering, spinning SMASH sign. HUDSON also provided automation, flying units, portals, set electrics, and technical supervision for the production. Congratulations to the company of “Smash”, now playing at the Imperial Theatre!

The leads are in and we’re so proud to have helped bring Glengarry Glen Ross on Broadway to the stage! Scott Pask designed two distinct settings for the show and HUDSON engineered, built, painted, electrified, automated them both, as well as provided technical supervision for the entire production. While not seen by the audience, the Chinese restaurant cleverly splits in half to make way for the walls and ceiling of the Premier Properties office. Take a look at some of the production photos to check out some of our recent work. Congratulations to the entire company of “Glengarry Glen Ross”, now playing at the Palace Theatre!

Heralded as “a brilliant, breathtaking whirlwind of a play” (Variety), Purpose on Broadway officially opened this week at the Helen Hayes Theatre! Todd Rosenthal’s two-story home captures the Jasper’s family prominence and serves “as an exquisitely curated museum of black pride” (Time Out New York). HUDSON fabricated the multilevel home inclusive of a spiral staircase, two ceilings, and integrated set electrics, as well as integrated portions of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company production for Broadway. See some of our photos from our in-shop set up!

🎄🎁We are starting to get in the holiday spirit now that “Cult of Love” is open at Second Stage’s Helen Hayes Theater. HUDSON fabricated and painted the Dahl family’s home, designed by John Lee Beatty. In these process photos, you can see how our crew was able to fit up the entire set in our Yonkers facility. This “hilarious, harrowing” show is now playing on Broadway through February 2!

🤖 There’s no “maybe” about it, HUDSON is definitely proud to be a part of Maybe Happy Ending, the new musical that is now open at the Belasco Theatre! HUDSON provided the scenery, automation, set electrics, and technical supervision for this “cutting-edge and brilliantly executed” production (The New York Times). The stage deck alone contains a ring revolve, 10’ diameter lift, push-chain deck tracks to move Oliver and Claire’s apartments, retractable custom “firefly” elements, and apron platforming, which has three lifts and LED video tiles across the fascia. To bring the video design to the rest of the stage, HUDSON designed and fabricated support structures for the proscenium and midstage video portals. A signature part of Dane Laffrey’s design are the LED-lined panels that track, fly, and even lift out of the deck to iris the stage picture. While not seen in the photos, HUDSON also outfitted the Belasco with an extensive rigging package to support over 75,000 pounds of scenery, lighting, sound, and video equipment. “Maybe Happy Ending” is now playing on Broadway.

Taking us back to Grover’s Corners, officially opened on Broadway at the Barrymore Theatre last night! HUDSON provided custom scenery that included an automated flying back wall, which the New York Times called “a simple yet breathtaking transformation”. Beowulf Boritt’s scenic design was achieved with the use of over 5,000 feet of painted and aged rough sawn planks that covers the entire set and deck. Be sure to catch this show while performances run from now to January 19th.
