A couple weeks ago, I had a blast giving a sound engineering lesson! Scott was particularly interested in learning more about micing techniques for an upright piano.

My biggest lesson to share from the night is that micing & sound engineering is a PRACTICE! Treat it like you’re a kid, playing, having fun, trying to find a sound that YOU like!

In early June, I had the honor of recording live performance of her song “Hurricane Alley” for her upcoming music video!

The recording came out sooo good, Alice plans to release the live performance audio recording on streaming services (in addition to the music video). Release date is TBD. Stay tuned!

The version of the song attached to this post, that you’re listening to now, is the studio version, which wasn’t recorded by me, but definitely worth listening to!

For the music video, I had the honor of collaborating with Tom Ryan and John Shelly of . They do incredible videography work & are a pleasure to work with. & shout out to Alice’s Fiancé, for stepping in & being a helping hand on all fronts!

In early April, I had the honor of recording the commissioned compositions for at .

was created by Ocean Robbins, a Vocal Performance major at through the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Fellowship, to fulfill what he saw as a gap in classical voice repertoire. This project commissioned music from contemporary composers to write art song specifically for trans voices. All the music written for the project is available for free on www.rainbowartsongproject.org/

THROWBACK POST! In 2023, I was hired to be the cellist & recording engineer for a contemporary jazz opera being workshopped at & .arts , called . As the engineer, I was hired to do a live recording of the works in progress, helping to archive the creative process & serve as a tool for composer Jessica Jones ( ), to continue to develop the song. Little did I know that this experience would transform my life. I was given grace, trust, confidence, growth, community, deep purpose & so much more. Everyone who has been & is involved in the project brings something unique to this project, & I am so grateful for their love & friendship. It has been such an honor to be a part of this project & this family of collaborators.

The Story Behind The Name

In the late 1960's and early 1970's my father, Robert Lane opened an automotive repair shop in the San Francisco Bay Area called Cosmic Chicken VW Repair. At one point, Jerry Garcia’s manager at the time came in looking to have repairs done to his vehicles. Unfortunately my father’s tools had been stolen the night before and he was unable to perform the work. The manager left and came back with a check signed by Jerry Garcia to help him buy new tools. In honor of my father’s life, passion, and musical connections, I have created Cosmic Chicken Studios. Thank you.
