𝕂𝕒𝕥𝕙𝕣𝕪𝕟 ℕ𝕖𝕝𝕤𝕖𝕟 - 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟞 𝕊𝕖𝕟𝕚𝕠𝕣

Kathryn Nelsen is the daughter of Chris and Cindy Nelsen. She has been figure skating for 14 years and is currently at the Freestyle 4 level.

Kathryn’s favorite skating memory is placing first at a competition and making fun memories with all the skaters along the way. When asked what she will miss most, she shared that she’ll miss getting all dressed up for performances and competitions, and skating with her friends.

Kathryn attends Yankton High School and plans to attend South Dakota State University to study Interior Design. She will also be part of the Air Force ROTC program with the goal of becoming a pilot in the United States Air Force.

Her advice for younger skaters: “Make sure to create goals and dreams for yourself and always chase them.”

Morgan Stevens is the daughter of Jeremy and Jami Stevens. She has been figure skating for 8 years and is currently skating at the Freestyle 4 level.

Morgan’s favorite memory from skating is heading to Sterling’s in Luverne with her friends during competition weekends — a tradition filled with fun, laughter, and great memories.

When asked what she will miss most about skating, Morgan shared, “The ambition and joy that you get from landing a jump, centering a spin, or perfecting footwork.”

After graduating from Crofton High School, Morgan plans to attend Augustana University, where she will major in Music and Business.

Morgan’s advice for teammates and younger skaters: “Never say ‘I can’t,’ always say ‘I’ll try.’”

Averi Weston is the daughter of Brittany and Aaron Weston. She has been involved in figure skating for seven years and is currently skating at the Freestyle 4 level.

When asked about her favorite skating memory, Averi shared that it was competing in her first competition. What she’ll miss most about skating are the friends she’s made and the memories created along the way.

After graduating from Yankton High School, Averi plans to attend Grand Canyon University, where she will major in Biology.

Her advice to younger skaters:
"Don’t quit, even if you’re not getting something right. It will get easier every time you practice it."

Lauralei Karstens is the daughter of Kendra Horman and Brent Karstens. She has been involved in figure skating for the past couple of years and is currently at the Gamma level.

When asked about her favorite skating memory, Lauralei shared, “Even though I haven’t been skating very long, my favorite part has been the environment. Everyone at the rink is really welcoming and supportive, and I’ve always felt encouraged instead of judged.”

She says she’ll miss the positive atmosphere at the rink and the support from her coach, Addison, and her fellow skaters.

After graduating from YHS, Lauralei plans to attend North Dakota State University to study Psychology on a pre-law track.

Her advice to younger skaters: “Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone starts at a different time and progresses at their own pace, so just focus on enjoying skating and improving for yourself. Progress is progress, no matter how small.”

𝔼𝕧𝕒 ℙ𝕒𝕦𝕝𝕤𝕠𝕟 - 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟞 𝕊𝕖𝕟𝕚𝕠𝕣

Eva Paulson is the daughter of Krystal and Tim Paulson. She has dedicated 13 years to figure skating and has achieved incredible milestones along the way. Eva is a USFSA Gold Medalist in Skating Skills, a Pre-Silver Singles medalist, and has passed ISI Freestyle 6 — accomplishments that reflect years of hard work and commitment.

Her favorite skating memory? Passing her Gold Skating Skills test and officially becoming a USFSA Gold Medalist — a moment she’ll never forget. When asked what she’ll miss most about skating, Eva shared, “Working with my coach, Tasia.”

After graduating from Yankton High School, Eva plans to attend the University of North Dakota to major in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. She hopes to continue skating and coaching, and even plans to try out for the UND Hockey Cheer Team.

Her advice to younger skaters:
“Hard work and dedication will always pay off. Even if you’re having a bad practice, always keep trying.”

Brooklynn Bentley is the daughter of Ashley and Dan Bentley. She has been figure skating for 11 years and is currently skating at the Freestyle 5 level. Brooklynn’s favorite figure skating memory is spending time and hanging out with friends at competitions. She says she will miss all of the people she has skated with over the years.

After graduating from YHS, Brooklynn plans to attend college to study biology and pursue a career as a physician assistant (PA). Her advice for younger skaters is: “Don’t be afraid to try new things!”
