Do you have a passion for skating and helping young athletes succeed? Yankton Figure Skating is looking for enthusiastic figure skating coaches to join our team for the upcoming season!

We're looking for individuals who:
⭐ Enjoy working with youth ages 4–18 of all skill levels
⭐ Have experience skating with ISI or USFS
⭐ Are willing to obtain an ISI Professional Membership and SafeSport Training
⭐ Are available to teach weekly lessons

Whether you're an experienced coach or a former competitive skater looking to give back to the sport, we'd love to hear from you!

Registration for the 2026-2027 season of Figure Skating is open on the YAIA website! Register by July 15 to get early bird prices! Prices will go up on July 15.

Figure Skating and Hockey have their own registration links. To register for figure skating, please go to https://www.yanktonice.org/fsregistration and have your SportsEngine email and password ready.

New to Figure Skating? First-year figure skaters register FREE — free registration and free equipment/skate rental. All first-year participants please email [email protected] for a free-registration coupon code. (First-year skaters still cover ISI membership, DIBS volunteer credits, and the fundraiser fee. Figure skaters will also pay for costumes when they’re ordered.)

New This Year: We’ve added an Intro to Figure Skating level to give brand-new skaters a stronger foundation. It’s the entry point for new figure skaters and for skaters moving up from Learn to Skate. Coaches use the ISI Tots curriculum, and Intro skaters train alongside the Pre-Alpha/Alpha sessions; the coach decides when each skater is ready to test up to Pre-Alpha. The result is stronger fundamentals, better retention and confidence, and more consistent skill grouping.

𝕂𝕒𝕥𝕙𝕣𝕪𝕟 ℕ𝕖𝕝𝕤𝕖𝕟 - 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟞 𝕊𝕖𝕟𝕚𝕠𝕣

Kathryn Nelsen is the daughter of Chris and Cindy Nelsen. She has been figure skating for 14 years and is currently at the Freestyle 4 level.

Kathryn’s favorite skating memory is placing first at a competition and making fun memories with all the skaters along the way. When asked what she will miss most, she shared that she’ll miss getting all dressed up for performances and competitions, and skating with her friends.

Kathryn attends Yankton High School and plans to attend South Dakota State University to study Interior Design. She will also be part of the Air Force ROTC program with the goal of becoming a pilot in the United States Air Force.

Her advice for younger skaters: “Make sure to create goals and dreams for yourself and always chase them.”

𝕄𝕠𝕣𝕘𝕒𝕟 𝕊𝕥𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕟𝕤 - 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟞 𝕊𝕖𝕟𝕚𝕠𝕣

Morgan Stevens is the daughter of Jeremy and Jami Stevens. She has been figure skating for 8 years and is currently skating at the Freestyle 4 level.

Morgan’s favorite memory from skating is heading to Sterling’s in Luverne with her friends during competition weekends — a tradition filled with fun, laughter, and great memories.

When asked what she will miss most about skating, Morgan shared, “The ambition and joy that you get from landing a jump, centering a spin, or perfecting footwork.”

After graduating from Crofton High School, Morgan plans to attend Augustana University, where she will major in Music and Business.

Morgan’s advice for teammates and younger skaters: “Never say ‘I can’t,’ always say ‘I’ll try.’”
