The goals of the Camerata Club of Yakima (a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization) are to provide good musical entertainment for the people in our community, to provide a good sense of fellowship and singing to its members and the guest performers, and to award music scholarships each year to promising high school students. The club has
operated for almost 100 years except for two temporary shutdowns. Our Annual Concert:
By presenting an Annual Concert, our primary fundraiser has provided the opportunity for many children, youth, and adults to demonstrate their musical talents on the stage before a large community audience. To support the scholarship program, Club members solicit donations from the community. To enhance the Annual Concert, the Camerata Club invites other music performers including our scholarship winners to participate in the musical evening. Scholarship Program for High School Students:
Each year the Camerata Club of Yakima announces and conducts a music scholarship competition for juniors and seniors in Yakima Valley High Schools. The scholarships are provided to musically gifted high school students who are planning to further their music training. In recent years the first prize for the scholarships has been $1,625 with additional awards made based on available funds. The total scholarships awarded have been in the $4,000 to $8,000 range each year. The competition is usually held in February with three judges chosen from well-known musicians and music teachers in the Yakima area. Scholarship winners are then invited to perform at our annual Spring Concert which takes place in March or April. In 2021 it was deferred to June because of the Covid19 issues. Contributions from The Sundquist Fund and the Yakima Retired Teachers Association provide the major funds along with concert revenue.
