Bishop Richard Looney is a VERY tall human being. 😄

But somehow his heart, humor, faith, and love for the people of Holston are even bigger. ❤️

For generations Bishop Looney has been a pastor, storyteller, encourager, friend, Holston Foundation DONOR — and truly a Holston hero.

That’s why we’re so glad his stories and wisdom are being shared through the Looney Sessions podcast. 🎙️

Made possible through earnings from the Endowment of First-Centenary United Methodist Church this series is a beautiful example of how an endowment can carry the gifts of one generation forward to bless us for years to come.

🎧 Give it a listen wherever you listen to podcasts — and if Bishop Looney has meant something to you, share this post so others can hear his stories and wisdom too.

📣 NEW RIVER DISTRICT — MARK YOUR CALENDAR! 📣
There’s a lot happening in the New River District, and October 18 is an important day to be part of it! We hope you’ll make plans to join us for our Fall District Conference and take part in the life and ministry of our district.

⛪ NEW RIVER DISTRICT CONFERENCE
📅 Sunday, October 18, 2026
⏰ 3:00 PM
📍 St. Paul United Methodist Church, Wytheville

Our District Conference is a time to gather in faith, conduct important district business, celebrate what God is doing among us, and look toward the future God is calling us to embrace. All clergy and laity are encouraged to attend!

🗳️ YOUR VOICE MATTERS!
Nominations are now being accepted for At-Large Delegates to the 2027 Annual Conference. Completed nomination forms are due to the District Office by Friday, October 9. If you feel called to serve, we encourage you to prayerfully consider submitting a nomination.

☕ AND THERE’S MORE!
Following District Conference, laity are invited to stay, enjoy some refreshments, and meet and visit with our new District Superintendent, Reverend Don Shelor! This will be a wonderful opportunity to get to know Don, share conversation, and welcome him as he serves the New River District.

💙 Your voice. Your presence. Your participation.
Together, we are gathering in faith, united in mission, and moving forward in God’s work!

We hope to see you October 18 at St. Paul UMC! 🙌⛪

What do you do when life doesn't turn out the way you thought it would?
When the news is heavy, the future feels uncertain, or you're carrying something you never expected to carry, it can be hard to see beyond what is happening right now.

But Isaiah gives us a powerful reminder: This is not how the story ends.
This Sunday, we'll look at Isaiah 25:1–9 and discover a promise of hope for the moments when life feels anything but hopeful. God is still at work. The tears, the pain, and even death itself do not get the final word.

Come worship with us this Sunday!

Davis Memorial UMC — 10:00 AM
5904 Lee Highway, Atkins

There is hope beyond what we can see right now—and we'd love to have you with us.

🎉 The Answer Is In! 👶

Kathy and Don were right on the money with their guess! 🎯 This little guy grew up to be Reverend Tim Smith, who now serves the Eggleston Circuit in Giles County.
