Why does Lions & Rabbits continue working across Michigan—and occasionally beyond?

Because communities facing similar challenges often hold solutions that can help one another. For Lions & Rabbits, this work isn’t about expanding for the sake of expanding. It’s about building relationships, learning from communities doing innovative work, and bringing those lessons back home.

Whether we’re working with neighborhoods, communities, or learning alongside partners in other regions of the country, we believe some of the most meaningful ideas emerge when people are willing to share experiences across communities.

During Detroit's Placemaking Week, join Lions & Rabbits Center for the Arts for an evening of creativity in Detroit's historic Corktown neighborhood. On June 25th, a paint-by-numbers mural experience and neighborhood tour will take place, meeting at the CPA Building before hand.

Take a guided walk through North Corktown, where you'll connect with local grassroots leaders and learn more about the community development, public art, and neighborhood revitalization efforts currently shaping the area.

No artistic experience is required, and all materials will be provided. With your admission, the evening will conclude with a fresh, Detroit-farmed dinner at Pink Flamingo. In Detroit for International Placemaking Week? Be sure to check out the Slow Roll Detroit ride as another great opportunity to experience the city through community, movement, and connection. See you there :)

Today’s Birthday Spotlight is on Bre, one of our Detroit partners, who is currently organizing an incredible amount of important work through her position with the North Corktown Neighborhood Association. Because of her creative problem-solving skills, she is able to build real pathways for food access and community support.

Bre informs and advocates for residents through a variety of neighborhood benefit resource programs, including housing development, food and revitalization projects that require neighborhood buy in.

She shows how creative community development happens when you put in the hard work. Her commitments continue to provide impact expanding beyond Corktown and into Detroit.
Please join us as we wish her a happy birthday! If you are interested in learning more or participating in our next collaborative event, visit the link in the bio!

From Michigan to Santa Cruz

On April 19th, Lions & Rabbits supported the 418 Project with two featured murals by two incredible artists—marking phase one of three, with more to come in the years ahead. As the work continues to grow beyond place, we remain focused on collaborating with artists and supporting them in the best way we can while connecting communities through public art.

Big thank you to the artists who brought these pieces to life:

STILL HERE: Rooted in Place, Emerging in Public has focused on listening, showing up, and creating alongside Detroit.

Over the past year, we’ve focused on working directly with the community by attending 30+ events with 15+ local creatives and have been continuously working with local leaders to convene intentional conversations with residents, creatives, and partners surrounding creative workforce development and intentional placemaking.

Our process begins with discovery, because we believe in rooting trust catalyzing community change through visibile storytelling.
