Excellent tips in here. One thing I would add is to consider your recording environment. A good sounding room makes a big difference. Keep windows closed, avoid recording when there’s a lot of environmental noise, and use soft surfaces (curtains, carpeting, upholstered furniture, etc) to dampen echo.

I really wish audio equipment companies would stop promoting condenser microphones for podcasting. Unless you have an incredibly well treated studio in which to record (if you don’t know what I mean, you probably don’t have one), you should use a good dynamic mic. It will sound much better to your audience.
