May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
June is Pride Month.

And while those things aren’t exactly related, they’ve had me thinking about something.

I became a tattoo artist because I love creating art.

But somewhere along the way, I realized this job isn’t really about tattoos.

It’s about confidence.

It’s about healing.

It’s about giving people a reason to look in the mirror and smile at themselves again.

Every day people sit in my chair and trust me with pieces of their stories.
Their losses.
Their growth.
Their identities.
Their scars.
The things they’ve survived.

Then every once in a while, I get a message like this.

And it reminds me that sometimes a tattoo isn’t just a tattoo.

Sometimes it’s the first time someone feels at home in their own body.

As someone who’s had their own battles with mental health, self-worth, and finding reasons to keep moving forward, moments like these mean more to me than I can put into words.

You guys don’t just support my art.

You help make my life possible.

You give me purpose.

And if something I create can help even one person feel more comfortable in their skin, then every difficult day was worth it.
