Yesterday, Jan 27, 2024, was the 50th anniversary of what is considered the 1st sale of DnD 1st edition by Gary Gyax to one of the developers of the game in 1974. Hard to believe it has been that long since DnD was first published.

Louis Desy Jr. Running for GAMA Director-At-Large Seat
(GAMA runs the Origins Game Fair in Columbus, OH)

I am troubled by the fact that GAMA and Origins seems to have lost its way in recent years, especially with doing things like the banning of author Larry Correla in 2018 for something that had NOTHING to do with the convention. It appears that some people used it as an opportunity to 'get back' at him and had him unjustly removed from the program for things that was none of the business of GAMA or Origins, someone made an accusation and 'that was it'. I fear this has been done, unjustly, to other people that we do not even know about. ( i.e Someone makes some kind of unfounded accusation, or the person has 'wrong views' that the accuser claims is a harm to them, against someone, and then GAMA/Origins boots them out without even asking the other person what happened.)

While I couldn't do anything to stop what happened to Larry Correla, I am going to do my part to ensure that something like this never happens to anyone again.

Even worse, my research, so far, shows that not only that the person who made the complaint was not even attending Origins! So a person was banned from the convention due to a complaint by another person that had not even been in communication with the targeted person for some time, and was not even going to be there! Is this really the way an organization like GAMA or a convention like Origins should be run?

As a director and member of the GAMA board, I would do everything in my power to ensure that such things never happen to anyone again. I would make sure that these 'internet mobs', which are running out of control, are put a stop to, once and for all.

I saw in the GAMA (Game Manufacturers Association) June 2019 newsletter that a few board seats are up for election at the next annual meeting on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 7pm in room A216 of the Greater Columbus Convention Center. GAMA is the parent organization that runs the Origins Game Fair each year. I put my name in to be put on the ballot for a Director-At-Large seat this past Thursday, so I will be on the ballot for voting members to cast a vote for.

I had thought about joining GAMA for a number of years. I finally decided to join, especially since I would like to do my part to help the hobby and its Origins Convention that I enjoy attending so much. My aim is to prevent it from becoming some kind of modern day dystopia where people are afraid of saying the wrong thing, or even asking questions, for fear of being thrown out of the place for some imagined 'wrong think', as judged by people that have absolutely no right doing such things.

So if you know anyone that is a member of GAMA, or even has any part in the overall gaming/boardgame/comics industry, please mention my running for GAMA director and recommend a vote FOR me for director. Even if the person you are talking with is not a voting member, they may know people that are or have connection to other people who are and word can get around.

I hope that after a few years as a Director-At-Large that I would be ready for the Office of President of GAMA or Executive Director of Origins, where I would be better able to ensure the proper running of the organization.

While I probably will not be able to attend the meeting in person this year, there is an option to attend remotely through Zoom this year, so I expect to be doing that.

If there is anyone that would be interested in talking about my running for GAMA Director I can be reached at [email protected] or voice/text at (774) 578-6910.

Good Luck and Take Care,
