For your listening enjoyment: Daniil Trifonov's recording of Bach's Contrapunctus 14.

"Bach did not live to finish The Art of Fugue’s final contrapunctus, and a number of musicians have attempted conjectural completions. For this recording, Trifonov, himself an accomplished composer, has created a seamless, stylistically respectful conclusion worthy of Bach’s genius. It reflects the extent to which he has absorbed and internalized every nook and cranny of Bach’s valedictory masterpiece." (Deutsche Grammophon - DG)

is intrigued by Bach’s attempts to base the work on the Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio, but observes that the result is “far more th...

Simone Dinnerstein's latest album drops this Friday, 6/5. We'll certainly be listening on repeat - check out the first review that's come out!

"Throughout Hourglass, Dinnerstein reveals herself not merely as an interpreter of Glass but as someone capable of exposing an underlying metaphysics. Too often, discussions of his music become trapped within debates over minimalism, repetition, accessibility, or influence. This recording bypasses those exhausted categories entirely. It restores mystery to music that many listeners assume they already understand."

Although primarily known as a Bach interpreter, pianist Simone Dinnerstein and her string ensemble, Baroklyn, find a natural affinity for the music of Philip Glass, the subject of Hourglass, her first recording for the Naïve label. Yet affinity alone hardly explains the uncanny sense of inevitabili...

On this day in 1972, Margaret Bonds' orchestral arrangement of "Credo" was premiered. The text of Credo was taken from William Du Bois' - activist and co-founder of the NAACP - 1904 essay that details “all men, black and brown and white, are brothers, varying through time and opportunity, in form and gift and feature, but differing in no essential particular, and [are] alike in soul and [in] the possibility of infinite development.” Bonds turned the text from Credo into her last major work, originally scored for soloists, choir, and piano, at the height of the Civil Rights Movement.

Hear Bonds' final masterpiece on November 6 at Mechanics Hall, directed by Music Worcester's 2026-2027 Artist-in-Residence Everett McCorvey.
