Historic preservation IS economic development! ✂️ Multi-decade downtown growth doesn't happen by accident.

25 years ago, the City of Woodstock transformed the historic Dean’s Store into the official Woodstock Visitors Center. We were on scene for the 25th Anniversary Ribbon Cutting to celebrate a quarter-century of driving local tourism! 🏛️✨

Over the last 25 years, visitor center attendance has scaled from just 5,000 visitors in year one to over 19,000 annual visitors from all 50 states and over 100 countries. By preserving this Main Street anchor, Woodstock created a permanent foot-traffic engine that feeds directly into our local shops, restaurants, and small business economy every single day.

WOODSTOCK CITY COUNCIL RECAP 🏛️🌱

Here are the two major outcomes from the City Council meeting:

1️⃣ Ansley Park Development: City Council voted to send the Ansley Park rezoning request back to the Planning Commission to allow for further evaluation of site plans, traffic impact, and neighborhood feedback.

2️⃣ Woodstock Arts Event Green: Approval was granted to replace the downtown event lawn with high-durability turf!
💰 Funding Note: This project is being funded through Parks SPLOST (sales tax dollars)—meaning visitors help foot the bill, keeping our event spaces green year-round without raising local property taxes!

STATEMENT FROM WOODSTOCK POLICE DEPARTMENT:

The Woodstock Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday, August 25, at approximately 6:43 a.m.

Officers responded to the intersection of Highway 5/Main Street and Highway 92 following reports of a collision between a passenger vehicle and a school bus in the northbound lanes.

Tragically, the driver of the vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

There were 22 juvenile passengers on the school bus at the time. Two students sustained minor injuries—one was transported to a local hospital by EMS for evaluation, and the second was released to a parent to be seen by a doctor.

Woodstock Police, Cherokee County School Police, and Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by the Traffic Unit.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the driver, as well as the students, families, and first responders involved.

Data Center Pause Extended + HWY 92 & Trickum Traffic Relief! 🏛️🚦

1️⃣ DATA CENTER PAUSE: Following Tuesday night's public hearing, the Board of Commissioners (Cherokee County, Georgia) voted to extend the temporary data center moratorium through early 2027. This 180-day pause gives county staff and legal teams the necessary time to study infrastructure demands and write dedicated zoning regulations. 🚫⚡

2️⃣ TRAFFIC RELIEF: Major intersection upgrades at Highway 92 & Trickum Road are officially moving forward! Improvements include dual left-turn lanes on all approaches, median controls, and improved signal flow to ease congestion at one of our busiest local corridors. 🚗💨
