Not every trend is a discovery. Some are just salmon hats.

The salmon hat is funny because it is ridiculous. It is also useful because so many human trends work the same way: something appears, spreads, becomes a signal, then disappears.

Our new Colloquies essay, Before Consensus Arrives, asks what separates social imitation from real discovery. In art, the difference matters. A trend asks to be joined. A discovery asks to be attended to.

Some things pass through the pod. Others repay attention. Link in bio.

Beauty is not always something to explain.

For Zoe Baer, it is something to feel: found in stillness, imperfection, attention, and the emotional charge held inside an image.

Her charcoal drawings ask us to slow down and look beyond what society tells us to find beautiful. Each work holds a question about presence, perception, and what becomes visible when we stay with the image long enough.

Come to Still and find your answers.

What survives the fair?

Our latest Colloquies essay reflects on Frieze New York as more than an exhibition: a temporary city of galleries, collectors, spectators, brands, gestures, transactions, and moments of real arrest.

The fair rewards speed. Some works adapt to that velocity. Others interrupt it.

Lee Bae’s work at Johyun Gallery was one of those interruptions: restrained, concentrated, and quietly resistant to the pace around it.

The essay considers what Frieze clarified for us about attention, interpretation, hospitality, and the kinds of encounters we want to make possible in the gallery.

Not a rejection of the art fair. Not a romance of distance.

A question of conditions.

Charcoal changed everything for Zoe Baer.

Drawn to its ability to hold extreme contrast and minute detail, she found in the medium a form of sustained concentration: every surface attended to, every mark considered, every shift in light held in focus.

In the teaser for Still, Baer speaks about precision not as effect, but as instinct. A line others might ignore becomes something she cannot overlook. She compares the process to chess, where attention must remain active across the entire field at once.

Still opens June 6, 3–6 PM at Colloquia.

We are very excited to share this exhibition next month.

New Colloquies essay is live.

What Happens When a Society Stops Looking Beyond Itself asks whether we have lost art, or whether we have weakened the conditions that allow art to matter.

We are surrounded by images. Yet access is not the same as encounter. Visibility is not the same as attention. And self-expression is not the same as being drawn into something larger than the self.

This essay considers art, attention, digital culture, patronage, public life, and the fragile civic work of looking together.
