Silverstage’s sophomore season has reached its end. Let’s take a look backwards (before we glimpse onwards).

🛝 Gruesome Playground Injuries was Silverstage’s first venture into contemporary theatre, and oh what a darkly fun venture it was. Only two actors (Lexi DeWitt & Daniel Lee Hollander), a killer soundtrack handpicked by our director Jake Heelein, and lots of wound and scar makeup, often applied swiftly just between the ends and starts of scenes by DeWitt, our actress, intimacy choreographer, and makeup designer.

At Silverstage, we prioritize exploring the human soul, and all the muddiness within it. These two characters grasp achingly at the strings of understanding each other, all over the course of 30 years told in a short 90 minutes. Growing pains have never been more violent, but sometimes we just don’t know how else to call for help, and that’s just so…human.

Silverstage’s sophomore season has reached its end. Let’s take a look backwards (before we glimpse onwards).

🥃 In order to stage a show with as much as depth and complexity as Harold Pinter’s Betrayal, we needed to bring together a powerhouse team, both on and behind the stage. Director Jake Heelein made his return to the company, alongside Producer Hunter Johnson and a top notch veteran cast of Stephen Pickering, Marisa Snook, and Max Saunders.

Betrayal is Silverstage’s most successful show so far, both in budget-to-income conversation, and an incredible word of mouth from our audiences. We couldn’t be more proud of this “lighting in a bottle” of quiet intensity and emotional impact that the team created. The audience cried and the audience laughed. What more could we want.

Silverstage’s sophomore season has reached its end. Let’s take a look backwards (before we glimpse onwards).

🗝️ Starting our season with the dramatic masterpiece that is Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House was no simple task, but we loved bringing audiences on its journey of wild twists and turns, especially in our classic Silverstage vintage radio show format.

It was a great joy—and a sensitive undertaking—for our cast and crew to devise a production that is, on the outside, infused with Christmas cheer and family values, but looking deeper and getting to know these characters, is inherently a tale of deep brokenness, miscommunication, and a final act that has been shocking the world for over a hundred years.

Our gruesome lil show has reached its end 🤕

👏 Thank you all for the incredibly warm reception and amazing analyses you’ve shared about the show!

The cast and crew of GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES have bonded so close and are going to miss this process deeply.

🥂This also marks the ending of Silverstage’s sophomore season. This—along with A DOLL’S HOUSE and BETRAYAL—was a wild trio of productions, all tackling themes of twisted romance, relational anxieties, and the ramifications of not truly understanding one another. What a crazy ride it’s been.

Stay tuned for the future of Silverstage!!
