Flood Update!
We’ve been so lucky to not have any more significant water intrusion thus far. As of now, there is a lot of moving parts to this project. It will be done in steps- requiring a few different things. Gutters, concrete filling, grading, drainage, etc…..and of course I will be doing my own redecorating inside the studio while I have the chance. So, please pardon the mess while things are being improved. Please note: I will do my very best to work around classes during periods of high construction noise, but ultimately I am at the mercy of the work. Special thanks to my landlords for putting this all in motion quickly, and for caring about the safety of this studio, the structure, and most importantly, its occupants. Students- without them this studio wouldn’t even exist. Do you know how hard it is to rent a home when you come with a kiln and full studio? It’s a slim chance for most. They can see this post, so don’t hesitate to leave your appreciation in the comments. I don’t think they have fully realized the niche they helped fill in the community of Woodstock. Here people laugh, cry tears of relief, tears of joy, and find their center. I close up every day and say “thank you” to the studio, because I know how incredibly blessed I’ve been to live here. I can’t wait to show you the improvements, but don’t rush me 🤪

The best news after a full inspection of every piece: All bisqued pieces survived the flood. They’re wet, but drying nicely. The luckiest thing of all: no greenware harmed! Y’all,
we got so lucky. My sweet man arrived with foam for a temporary fix until the right company can get here. My friend Betty brought a flood barrier to prepare for the rest of the rain. My awesome landlords are already on the case.

Well, I had a very long night in the studio. Unfortunately, the flash flooding was so intense that half the studio is flooded. At this time, all student pieces appear to be just fine. But, I have quite a bit of work ahead of me to get things back in order. At this time, I am unsure of what the steps will be to rectify the situation. With more rain coming over the next few days, only time will tell. With it being Memorial Day, getting someone out here to help is slim. Please keep me in your thoughts and keep fingers crossed that damage is minimal to studio gear. Students with classes this week, please check your emails about an hour before your class time incase there is any last minute changes. Luckily, the wheels and kiln are fine. Obviously, many wooden tools and shelves have been destroyed. I appreciate your patience as I navigate this hurdle.
