Somebody recently remarked here that “EnochianEvocations” is an unfitting name for this page. The person objected because she regards the “Angels” of the 30 Aethyrs to be Divine beings. For the most part, according to my personal experience, I do consider these beings as “higher”. Still, there are many legitimate reasons to evoke “lower” beings using the Enochian system. For example, some of the Adepts in our A.’.A.’. lineage evoke the “demon” of the Watchtower square of their Sun sign as an Inner Adept ritual. The theory is that that particular demon is in fact one’s “daemon”. The purpose of the ritual is to clear away all of the programming since childhood that has misdirected the daemon, commanding it to fulfill wants rather than the Divine Will.

The name “EnochianEvocations” is appropriate for a second reason. “Evocation” can also mean calling an entity into visible appearance in the Macrocosm. At times, Dr. John Dee and Sir Edward Kelley “evoked” in this very sense. A prominent example is when the Angel Madimi showed up as if in the flesh. The spirit ran up and down through Dee’s stacks of books carrying a toy. While this was occurring, the books physically moved to allow her through.

Finally, I don't see the term “evocation” in the store’s title here as problematic given that nobody really knows what these entities represent. In fact, many of their received designs look explicitly goetic, which they subsequently attribute to being communications from maleficent entities.

I came across an interesting quote earlier today while doing research that'll be of interest to the Thelemic community in particular. In the Introduction to John Dee’s Five Books of Mystery by Joseph H. Peterson, the following footnote can be found (p. 3, footnote 6):
R. Turner writes, “Mistakes abound in both the Crowley and Regardie printed Enochian texts. I counted 91 in the first Call alone when comparing these with Dee's original manuscript (see Sloane 3191, British Museum).”
*Note that the word "first" here is not specifying that the attached photo is depicting the first call.
