FIVE OF CUPS, ACE OF CUPS & THE HERMIT
This weekend's cards describe feelings of heartbreak around the loss of something or someone whom you are emotionally invested in.
The FIVE OF CUPS presents a picture of emotional strife. Sometimes the words to express how we feel elude us, but we find other ways to process the grief, such as this horse whose head hangs in sadness. Although there is some light above, all that he sees is the darkness below. Adjacent to the Ace of Cups, this card speaks to emotional intensity. Instead of distracting ourselves with outside concerns, sometimes it's best to do nothing and feel the pain all the way through.
The ACE OF CUPS calls on us to pay special attention to your emotions, which may not always be so easily felt. Sometimes this is because when we lose something, we do everything in our power to distract ourselves from the pain incurred by that loss. Take, for example, the practice of βreboundingβ with a new partner after a significant relationship has ended. Rebound relationships rarely last because its an attempt to delude yourself into thinking that what has been lost can easily be replaced. But in reality, its impossible to replicate any one person or relationship. You cannot find in someone else the same exact qualities that you enjoyed in another.
THE HERMIT is about taking some time alone to understand yourself better. Corresponding to Virgo, we need that time to analyze our feelings. And adjacent to the Ace of Cups, The Hermit is also about taking a moment for self-reflection, particularly the role that you played in creating the present situation. It's a brave thing to learn how to be on your own. But finding that strength within yourself leads you to a place of greater emotional stability.
