It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of a Woodbine Opry/Old School legend. Mrs. Ivy Mae Sapp was there when the Woodbine Opry played the first song. Ms. Ivy was more than a volunteer—she was a cornerstone of kindness, a steady presence, and a shining light at the Old School and the Woodbine Opry for over 25 years.
Ms. Ivy passed away at her home on the afternoon of Monday April 13th, 2026 which marked the one-year anniversary of her husband Mr. Willie's passing.
Ms. Ivy decided on her own to make it her task to greet folks at the front door with a warm, familiar smile, and her own unique sense of humor every Friday and Saturday night. Ms. Ivy wanted every newcomer to feel welcome, valued, and loved. She made everyone feel at home at the Opry.
Services for Ivy Mae Sapp are tentatively scheduled to be held Sunday April 26th, 2026, from her home away from home at the Woodbine Opry Auditorium. Visitation is tentatively scheduled to be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with funeral services starting at 1:00 pm with Dr. Bill Garlen officiating. Burial will be at the Woodbine Cemetery on the south side of State Road110 West.
Family and friends will return to the Old School dining room after the graveside service is completed for a dinner provided in Ms. Ivy’s honor by The Old School Renovation Committee and Woodbine Opry volunteers.
Please remember the family in your prayers. We will provide confirmation of final arrangements and the obituary when they become available.
