It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of a Woodbine Opry/Old School legend. Mrs. Ivy Mae Sapp was there when the Woodbine Opry played the first song. Ms. Ivy was more than a volunteer—she was a cornerstone of kindness, a steady presence, and a shining light at the Old School and the Woodbine Opry for over 25 years.

Ms. Ivy passed away at her home on the afternoon of Monday April 13th, 2026 which marked the one-year anniversary of her husband Mr. Willie's passing.

Ms. Ivy decided on her own to make it her task to greet folks at the front door with a warm, familiar smile, and her own unique sense of humor every Friday and Saturday night. Ms. Ivy wanted every newcomer to feel welcome, valued, and loved. She made everyone feel at home at the Opry.

Services for Ivy Mae Sapp are tentatively scheduled to be held Sunday April 26th, 2026, from her home away from home at the Woodbine Opry Auditorium. Visitation is tentatively scheduled to be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with funeral services starting at 1:00 pm with Dr. Bill Garlen officiating. Burial will be at the Woodbine Cemetery on the south side of State Road110 West.

Family and friends will return to the Old School dining room after the graveside service is completed for a dinner provided in Ms. Ivy’s honor by The Old School Renovation Committee and Woodbine Opry volunteers.

Please remember the family in your prayers. We will provide confirmation of final arrangements and the obituary when they become available.

My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. Mr. And Mrs. Wilkes were really really good people that I had the pleasure of knowing in my life here on earth, I will see them again one day. May you all have comfort on knowing they are both in the care of Our Lord.

I revived a text message today, that Richard "Whip" Wlikes passed away yesterday. I know most of our long time followers remember him well. He was a regular on Friday night for many years. As well as at The Huddle House afterwards till the wee hours of the morning. I'll post any arrangements as I hear any news.

Top Ten Reasons for Being a Bass:

1. You don't have to tighten your shorts to reach your note.
2. You don't have to worry about a woman stealing your job.
3. Or a preadolescent boy stealing your job.
4. Action heroes are always basses. That is - if they ever sang, they would sing bass.
5. You get great memorable lyrics like bop, bop, bop, bop.
6. If the singing job doesn't work out, there's always broadcasting.
7. You never need to learn to read the treble clef.
8. If you get a cold, so what.
9. For fun, you can sing at the bottom of your range and fool people into thinking there's an earthquake.
10. If you belch while you're singing, the audience just thinks it is part of the score.
