This is Pheo, the first painting I have done in a year. I don't really know how to express what I want to say about her. My son was born last year at this time and I have spent the last 360 odd days falling in love over and over with him. I haven't been spared from affliction however. I fell into a deep abyss of depression, deeper than I have ever known. We moved several times. We've been ill. We've lost employment and faced the stigma and persecution that comes with being in poverty. We're not out of the woods, but I can say that I finally see daylight through the shadows.
I am just so full of gratitude for my husband. He built me a computer that's strong enough to run my painting software. He's never let me forget that I am an artist. I was soul sick to approach my pen after a year of torment and self doubt, I didn't think I could ever draw again. I thought all the talent that had been given to me was lost forever. Painting again took perseverance for all of the voices in my mind that told me every chosen stroke was wrong.
I am thankful for Pheo, she's a gift from Heavenly Father. Even though I can't feel his approval through the heavy weight of dark emotion, I know he loves me. I am just grateful. Mortality is so hard, but I am grateful to feel my strength after a long uphill climb. I am grateful to paint again.
