Sylvan Gallery represents some of the finest contemporary realist artists of New England. One of October’s paintings that found a new home in North Carolina! ❤️

The new owners didn’t hesitate when they saw “Whispers of the Tide” by Paul Batch. There’s something wonderfully quiet and atmospheric about this painting that draws you in. I’ll miss having it in the gallery, but I’m delighted it found just the right home!

One of Wiscasset’s most beloved summer landmarks! ❤️

Robert Noreika’s impressionistic painting of Red’s Eats captures the energy of a summer day on Water Street, with a lively crowd beneath the iconic red-and-white awning, colorful figures, and the cool shade of the leafy trees overhead. A wonderful slice of summertime in Wiscasset!

It’s always a little bittersweet when someone calls ready to purchase a painting, only to discover it sold the day before! 🎨

Gallery owners will tell you it happens more often than you might think. Sometimes it’s even a matter of hours. Stan Moeller’s evocative painting, “Night Swimmers – Pool Angels,” had caught the attention of several people who saw it in the gallery. On Friday, one person returned after thinking about it for two months and decided the time was right. On Saturday, another call came in from someone ready to make it theirs.

I really hate disappointing people, but it’s also a wonderful reminder of how deeply a painting can connect with someone. ❤️

We’ve all had those moments when we go back and forth over a decision, only to discover the opportunity has passed. When a painting really speaks to you, sometimes you just know.

And congratulations to Stan for creating a painting that resonated with so many people!

Some paintings have a way of finding their people. ❤️

Ken & Ken first saw Neal Hughes’ Lightkeeper’s House, Marshall Point early this season. They loved it. Then they went home.

And kept thinking about it. 😉

As it turns out, Marshall Point is already a pretty important place for them—it was where they decided they wanted to move to Maine, and they eventually found a home in the area. Needless to say, it’s their favorite lighthouse in Maine.

So they just came back for the painting. ❤️

And there was an especially meaningful reason: they purchased it with Ken’s Aunt Eileen in mind. She recently passed away and had a great love of art, making this painting an even more special addition to their home.

And Bobo? Well, Bobo was simply there to make sure everyone looked good for the photo. 🐾

Congratulations, Ken & Ken! We couldn’t be happier that Neal’s Lightkeeper’s House found its way to you.

Artist Spotlight ~ Robert Noreika 🎨

For more than 40 years, Robert Noreika has been painting the people, places and waterways of New England with an unmistakable sense of color, energy and design. While his earlier work is known for its loose, expressive brushwork, I’ve especially enjoyed watching his paintings evolve toward a more distilled approach — simplifying the scene into bold shapes, vibrant color and strong, beautifully balanced compositions. Whether painting a working harbor, a quiet village or the rocky coast of Maine, Bob captures the essence of a place rather than every detail.

A Signature Member of the American Watercolor Society since 2015, Bob is also a member of several prominent art organizations, including the Salmagundi Club and the New England Watercolor Society. His work has been selected twice for the American Watercolor Society’s traveling exhibition, and his paintings are part of the permanent collection of the New Britain Museum of American Art.

We’re delighted to represent his work here at Sylvan Gallery. ❤️

Yesterday we shared two paintings that we thought would make the perfect pair. Well… sometimes it really does happen! ❤️

These two paintings by Roberta Goschke found a home together this week — purchased as a pair by collectors who saw just how beautifully they belonged together.

One captures the light at Marshall Point; the other, a quiet moment in Thomaston Harbor. Different scenes, but their scale, color, and feeling make them a natural pairing.

There are so many wonderful combinations of paintings in the gallery that the possibilities are endless. Perhaps your perfect pair is waiting for you, too. 🖼️🖼️

Sometimes art is purchased in pairs… two paintings that just seem meant to hang together. 🖼️🖼️

These two paintings by Neal Hughes would make a wonderful pair. Both were painted on Monhegan Island, but each offers a very different view of the island.

Above, Neal captures a classic view across the harbor toward Manana Island, while below is a closer look at the historic fish shacks at Fish Beach. Together, they complement one another beautifully, yet each can certainly stand on its own.

So, let’s see… will one find a home first, or will someone see them as the perfect pair? 😊
