John Sawyer Studio

John Sawyer Studio My message is pretty simple: we are surrounded by beautiful places and moments that quickly come and just as quickly disappear.

My paintings are a way of slowing down the passage of life, to be fully in the now of the place.

Here are some other paintings I have done in August and September, all outdoors in front of the subject (plein air). Getting ready to start indoor painting - I am not "tough enough" to paint in the Maine cold! (I really respect those who do though!)

Hi and Happy Fall (or Autumn if you like)...

Here are the paintings I have done at the Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbor. I am a member and they are great about my painting there (as long as I don't block the paths).

I had wonderful interactions with people of all ages there! Every once in a while I would get that "Spidey sense" that someone was behind me and sure enough there would be little semi-circles of folks watching me. This would bother some people but I actually like the interaction and occasional distractions.

Prices framed and unframed are in the captions. Shipping at cost to the Continental US or pickup in Mid-Coast Maine (I live in Wiscasset).

Some of the Botanical Gardens and Pemaquid Beach paintings will go for sale locally at Boothbay Region Art Foundation (BRAF), River Arts in Damariscotta, and the Maine Art Gallery annual member artist show. My works are in the bins as well as on the walls.

I have been a busy guy and while we need the rain badly, the weather has been great for painting outside!

Hope all is well with you and yours and stay cool!!

ooops I forgot this one. It was sold at the PaintIt! Maine plein air show at the Maine Art Gallery. Another 9X12 painted on July 18th. I believe it was $300 framed.

Taking a break from painting today due to the heat.

Attached are paintings I have recently done at Pemaquid Beach. I am challenging myself by choosing a chaotic busy scene with a million colors and a lot of people! My next post will be of the five paintings done at the Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbor.

All are painted outdoors in front of the subject (plein air) and in a single 2-3 hour session with minimal studio editing

Let me know what you think. These are all for sale except or the Day Campers at Pemaquid Beach painting which was sold to the Gardiner Boys and Girls Club and the one titled couple at the beach which I sold to the couple in the foreground.

Prices for the painting with or without a frame are in the captions. Shipping would be extra. Pick up in Mid-Coast Maine (I live in Wiscasset).

Enjoy and stay cool (it is in the 90's up here in Maine...!!!)

Attached are more plein air paintings I have done in the last two months -hope you enjoy them!

The beach paintings are all Pemaquid Beach. One of the paintings sold at the beach to a couple in the painting! It was the picture with a dark blue umbrella and a black beach wagon/carryall. Had a lot of fun and met some great people. The kids who come by are the best: so cute and up front about what they like and don’t like.

Will be showing some of these at the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset at the Plein Air show opening soon. Cone visit 15 Warren Street in Wiscasset!!

Hi I am happy to announce my plein air painting of Ocean Point was accepted into the first juried show at BRAF (Boothbay Region Art Foundation) curated by D. Gleason of Gleason Fine Arts. It is an oil painting done in about 3 hours. The dimensions are 16x20 and is my largest plein air painting.

I also went swimming and the water was very very cold! No big surprise there.

Good morning. I was on Monhegan from Sunday the 15th until Thursday the 19th of June. I stayed at the Monhegan House and it was wonderful even though there was a power outage! Still smiling they worked through it and were simply awesome!

The other guest were delightful and I wish I could have stayed all summer. The food there is also excellent and very creative.

I did 7 paintings over the 4 days. These are for sale here and soon at BRAF in Boothbay and at River Arts in Damariscaotta.

They are all oil on canvas panel/board, painted plein air in front of the motif, wet on wet, in one painting session with limited studio edits.

The 12X9 paintings are $150 and the 12X16 paintings are $250 unframed. They can be framed for an additonal $75 or you can provide your own (they are standard sizes). Prices do not include packing and shipping. Local pickup can be arranged at my house in Wiscasset, ME.

Let me know if you are interested and feel free to reach out by text or phone (229)339-1871 or by email [email protected].

Thanks for looking and your interest.

And my final post today ....

I had a wonderful time Thursday with a plein air painting group. Thanks to Wendy and Tom for their wonderful hospitality. It is a banner year for lupines this year (benefit of a cold rainy spring? - I am not a botanist).

The painting "Wiscasset Lupines" is available for sale $200.

I am looking forward to going to Monhegan and painting the lupines under the apple trees behind the island inn (see sample painting).
