It’s officially fall!

I can’t wait for the crisp air and morning glow. It’s my favorite season! Freckle Salvage Company has plenty of fall inspiration and decor including watercolor prints inspired by the shifting seasons.

Have you noticed the monarchs? Throughout the summer there are several generations of monarchs that live and die in one season.

The monarchs passing through end of summer are beginning one of the most remarkable journeys. Over the coming weeks, they’ll travel thousands of miles south, making their way toward the mountain forests of central Mexico.

And here’s one of the coolest parts these particular butterflies have never made this journey before and they will live much longer than the generations before them.

The monarchs migrating south spend the winter in Mexico, and eventually begin the return trip north in the spring. They navigate using the sun and an internal compass. They cross landscapes they’ve never seen before and they travel with companions who have never been there before.

So when you spot a monarch drifting through your late summer garden, you might be watching the beginning of a great adventure one that will carry this navigator across an entire continent.

I’m thinking about the Maine beach and how almost every problem in the world seams a little smaller after a drink of water and a walk by the ocean. There is even science to prove it. Something about being near water moves us into what psychologists call the “blue mind” effect. We move away from the fight or flight response and our sympathetic nervous system is activated. The part that is responsible for rest and recovery. I know I feel it. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the beach, almost any water will do, a lake, a creek. Just let your body rest and notice what nature is doing. It just keeps going. Are you ever inspired by the water? It’s my favorite place to go to rest and be inspired.
