Vendor Highlight!

If you have any little ones in your life, they will be smitten with Molly Pratt’s felted art! Molly creates custom dolls, crowns, bookmarks and other pieces for you to take home 🥰.

Next year we may get her to lead a workshop on needle felting too, so keep your fingers crossed!

Volunteers needed!

We have started this wonderful journey to celebrate local fiber, artists, craftspeople and fiber farmers, but we will need helping hands to make our first gathering a success! We have already had people asking about volunteering and now we are ready to make a list. Here are some of the opportunities for volunteering on the day of:

* Welcome/Info/Swag Table
* Workshop support
* Vendor/Demonstrator support
* Food Vendor/ Trash management support
* Children’s Arts & Crafts support
* Parking organization
* Promotion and Communication

Founded in 2012, the Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum is a dynamic cultural hub dedicated to preserving and celebrating textile traditions. Through interactive exhibitions, educational programs, and community partnerships, we connect people to the stories, skills, and creativity woven into every fiber.

* The Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum highlights various textile art styles by many artists and has hosted over 50 exhibits since the museum’s founding.
* Adult classes in everything from sewing and quilting to embroidery and crochet
* Each summer the museum holds four sessions of Quilt Camp with personalized mentors. This program has reached over 300 children since its founding.

Workshop Highlight!
One of the simplest ways to get into spinning is with the drop spindle. It’s light weight and easy to put in any bag so you can take it wherever you go. Spinning is like magic once you get the hang of it so come take this workshop and start your spinning journey! If you already know how to spin on a wheel, this is a great opportunity to get into spindle spinning so you too can take it anywhere! This class comes with a drop spindle and fiber for you to take home! Sign up for this class through the Marigold Fiber Fest website!

Here’s a little from the instructor: My name is Helen Boyle, and I live with my husband on a small farm in north Georgia. We have a herd of angora goats that keep us busy and entertained. Our goats are three colors, white, grey and beige, and have a hoard of personalities. As well as teaching the class on on fiber and drop spindle spinning, we will have a booth full of fiber goodies at the Marigold Fiber Fest this year. Our products include bags of washed natural-colored mohair, mohair and mohair blended rolags in an array of colors, silk roving, wool and silk battings, hand spun art yarn, needle felting kits and supplies, including fiber by the ounce, hand-crafted hardware such as wooden detanglers, diz, nostepinnes (ball winders), drop spindles, and handmade wooden button, We’re “All Things Fiber Direct from the Farm!”

One of the festival’s founding members, Joanne Maki, was inspired to join the Marigold Fiber Fest board to promote the use of local wool and raise awareness about a unique breed of sheep called the Gulf Coast Native.

The Gulf Coast Native (GCN) breed originated from sheep brought to the southern US during colonial times. Over centuries, Nature selected which of these sheep could adapt to the southern Gulf Coast environment. Over the years, the GCN became resistant to internal parasites and more heat tolerant than British breeds of sheep. The GCN breed is also considered to be endangered by the Livestock Conservancy.

Fleeces and wool products are sold from Joanne’s flock under the brand name, Georgia Rustic Wool. Georgia Rustic Wool offers raw fleeces, washed locks, roving, batting and yarn.
Each year the best fleeces from her sheep are entered in fleece shows in Maryland and North Carolina and are recognized for improving the fiber quality of this breed. Her motivation to be involved with GCN sheep is to have their value as livestock recognized by a larger audience including their ability to produce great wool. Doing so also helps preserve a heritage breed that has adapted so well to our region.

While being a shepherdess takes most of her spare time, Joanne enjoys dyeing wool and knitting sweaters. As a past president of the Georgia Sheep and Wool Growers, Joanne’s primary goal in supporting the Marigold Fiber Fest Board is networking with others to support and enrich our community and grow awareness about the value of using local natural fibers.  

Joanne’s GCN wool will be available for sale at the Marigold Fiber Fest!!

Workshop Spotlight! Unwind Yarn Boutique Local knitter Ria Johnson is the proud owner of Unwind in the heart of Winterville, GA. Her socials are the place to go for a weekly dose of knitting and inspiration! We highly recommend following her and stopping by her yarn boutique!!
