The Mask of Zorro, a 1998 American Western swashbuckler film, plays for Throwback Thursday feature August 27 at the Iowa Theater at 7.
The film stars Antonio Banderas in the main role, with Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Stuart Wilson co-starring in supporting roles.
The film has plenty of action, tumult, and derring-do. Of the four swashbucklers shown in August, it is probably the most fun.
The action in the movie, most of which takes the form of spectacular stunt work, is performed by real people not digitized effects. Critic Roger Ebert was surprised by the screenplay's display of traditional film craftsmanship. "It's a reminder of the time when stunts and special effects were integrated into stories, rather than the other way around." Ebert gave the film three out of four stars, and would later call it "probably the best Zorro movie ever made."
Don't miss it. Half priced popcorn on Thursdays.
